Debate: Standard BP or Custom BP

I'm 6'4" as well, and I wear a standard plate without issue.

    Have you met Dan McKay?

    question about clipping spg?

LOL - try telling that to any number of GUE instructors who couldn't get a 24" SPG hose to fit their hip d-ring unless they dislocated their hip. My GUE instructor uses a 26" hose with his DS4 Apeks doubles rig. Dude - it's the whole "do it this way or you're wrong" attitude that doesn't...

    Apollo Bio-Tank Lock?

I've referred to it in the past as "a tax on the gullible..." but I'm pretty sure that's not what you want to hear right now.

why not octo clipped to right d ring?

There's a really, really simple solution to this, Mitchell. Do you want to tell us what that is, or should we spell it out for you? :)

    Question on Cleaning Tanks...

Dry them without oxygen. When they get O2 cleaned, dump them inside out and dry them, quickly, with an inert gas like nitrogen. My LDS uses helium from the leftover bottles in his trimix cascade. Without O2, rust can't form. Problem solved.

    Question on Dan Mackay's book...

I can say with 100% confidence that Dan has 'a number of projects underway.' ;)

    question from the movies??

If it was a 'closed' system, you wouldn't need O2 at altitude - merely a breathable mix... or in other words, plain 'air.'

    spring fin straps

Bob is correct - the spring straps I make are designed for fins with the little post-hub (like Aqualungs, Mares or Cressi's). I wish I could come up with a simple, cheap and easily reproduce-ible design for Jet Fins, but so far, no luck. I've seen the EZ straps - they look pretty cool too...

    Shock cord to webbing help

Sean - I think you're overanalyzing this. Go out and dive. Have fun. Don't sweat the stuff like "do I have enough innertube." I haven't had innertube to 'protect my harness' in 2 years. My harness is starting to fray. If it gets bad, I'll replace it - it will cost me about $10. If I...

    Bungee over head

I think you're over-analyzing this too much. Bungee stretches, otherwise we'd use a piece of rope or something. Thusly - it will stretch over your head. Problem solved. Make that necklace nice and tight.

Bungee for DSS Suunto SK-7 Compass Boot

Definitely go with the 1/8th. I'm not the expert on these things like Tobin is but I distribute his boots for him in Ontario. In fact, I'm surprised you got the 3/16 through there at all. Save yourself a lot of hassle and just throw some 1/8th through there.

    Shock cord to webbing help

I do it like most other Hogarthian/DIR configured divers - throw a few loops of inner tube on there when you're threading your backplate. You want to put an extra one on there so that if one breaks you've got a spare without having to rethread your backplate harness.

what is the least destructive mode of fishing?

You might be interested in knowing that I'm the published author of Framing the Fish Farmers on "the Impact of Activists on Media and Public Opinion about the Aquaculture Industry..." I've been the guest speaker at a number of Aquaculture related conferences and events. I believe Aquaculture...

    regulators...

    A) US Divers aren't made anymore. They're owned by Aqualung. B) You're going to find a lot of people who tell you to "do a search." Let me summarize a lot of what you're going to find: For the money, it's next to impossible to beat an Apeks DS4 with ATX 50 second stage. They're popular...

    Gue Vs Tdi

OK - I know this is going to be controversial, but let me say this: All the folks who say "It's about the Instructor, not the agency," don't appear to have been GUE trained, have they? So just who are they making excuses for? Something to think about, friends. Something to think about.

    ComfoBite?

Not according to JJ. New directive from GUE - light cord goes over. Less likely to accidentally clip off your long hose that way.

    Why all black?

It's a misconception. In fact, the cover of "Fundamentals of Better Diving" has Jarrod Jablonski wearing a blue drysuit. My LDS has a roll of hot pink weight-belt webbing - I've often thought of wearing that in my harness just to piss off my dive buddies. The benefits of black, though...

Where to buy replacement HID Bulb?

Nice try, but that price isn't out of line. The bulb in a light cannon is a Welch-Allen 10w, and the cheapest I've ever seen one, anywhere, online or otherwise, was around $65 from an ATV supply place. (Don't remember the link now, sorry.) Automotive HID bulbs are probably manufactured by...
