    DUI dry suit question

Let me get something straight - if you have zip dry gloves on, do you have an inner wrist seal in case you tear your glove?

Where did you get your spring straps?

Thanks for the plug, but unfortunately, my design won't work for Jet Fins. If you need spring straps for just about any other type of fin (Mares, Aqualung, Cressi, etc) I think mine are fantastic (well, duh! :D ), but I don't have buckles for Jet Fins.

    UnderArmour

Yes - it allows a think layer of water next to your skin. But the key here is 'allows.' It's not encouraged. Don't think of it as warm water next to your skin keeping you warm, think of it as your body having to do less work by ONLY having to warm up a thin layer of water.

    Semi-Dry Suits...thoughts?

OK - it wasn't $100 more... ifor reference, I paid over $400 for an Isotherm several years ago. At the time, a Bare NexGen was between $600 and $650. My main point is that I would have been far better to have just picked up a cheap wetsuit and saved my money towards a drysuit. After all...

    DIR acceptable fins

OK - there are a number of fallacy's to this argument, and assuming that "proper fins = ankle weights" is one of those fallacies... HOWEVER, for the sake of beating a dying horse, let me explain for you using physics why even this argument doesn't hold water. Take a sledgehammer. Move the...

    Semi-Dry Suits...thoughts?

Um - no, not even close. I think, like this thread would indicate - if you can't afford a drysuit, get a cheap rental wetsuit, dive the crap out of it, suffer like heck for the first year while saving your pennies. Or, spend an extra $100 over the cost of a semi dry and get a hefty-bag...

    Basic Gear Care for Newbies?

I only pack my gear (into mesh bags, rubbermaid containers or whatever else) the night before I dive. Otherwise, it hangs on hangers or in an appropriate place - leaving it scrunched up/coiled/folded is not good for anything.

    Custom drysuit undergarments?

Just about any dive gear manufacturer. I have a pair of Diving Concepts Thinsulate Stretch Extreme undies which are fantastic. You're lucky in that they're only a couple hours down the road.

    Bare CT-200 Underwear?

Long story short - I used to own Bare CT200. It sucked donkey balls. I bought some Diving Concepts Stretch Thinsulate - it's beautiful stuff. If you want specifics, PM me. Let's just leave it at not warm, not movement friendly and the outer cover tends to 'catch' the inside material of the...

    DUI ZipSeals

Wow - actually, I'm pleasantly surprised that DUI left those stories on their website. Many manufacturers would have deleted the bad stories and continued to gloss over any issues. TJ - in answer to your concern, as a regular cold water Great Lakes diver, there is no way, no how I would put...

    Hose protectors?

A lot of the pictures on different DIR sites are outdated. The feeling on hose protectors is they're not needed, they hide corrosion and make inspection of your couplings much more difficult. So if you don't need them - don't use them.

Stories you've told to spouse when you buy gear.

Referring to your new 21 w HID Cannister Light in the following manner: "That? Oh, it's a scuba flashlight. I paid for it with my spring strap money." I'm happy because she never asked the magic question. She's happy because she thinks it costs around $50. I mean, after all - it's...

    Question for Scott

OK see, this is where you blew it. I think everyone would be willing to give you the benefit of the doubt if you had just said, "Hey, you know what - duh. I goofed. Sorry, Scott." But no - you go off on a diatribe about posting behaviour, and then, just out of insecurity you start trying...

    Question for Scott

Um, just an observation... You just posted a public thread about a very specific incident without an RMA number, a proper name, address or even a dive shop. Just how on earth did you expect a legitimate response from Scott based on information like "a month or two ago" and no more ID than a...

    spring fin straps

Geez guys - it's scary what I'm hearing here. Using grommets? Using plastic quick connects (which let me assure you after having broken several sets, are NOT a good idea?) Here - let me solve this problem: If anyone, at any point in time, ever has to make these sort of modifications to a...

    Gue Vs Tdi

OK - I don't mean this to sound as snotty as it probably does but: Why on earth would anyone pay money for a "Fundies Class" or "DIR Compliant Instruction" when the shop is CLEARLY not affiliated with the folks who deliver that training in the first place? I mean - you have the option of...

    PST E7-100 and weighting

I remove 5, personally, but yeah. A Luxfer is 4.0 lbs positive when empty, an E7-100 is -1. Basic math says 5, and it's worked fine for me in the past.

    Help! Mares Isotherm

Hence your problem. When you get into the water, you should crack the neck seal and 'burp' the suit. This is very normal for an Isotherm, relax.

Big dilemma, should i sell my poseidon rig??

I'm not going to tell you what to do but if I had a dime for every person I've heard complain about having purchased "the wrong type of gear" in the past (whether it's DIR, or any other type of evolution in their diving style) I'd be rich. All I'm saying is that if this is the only gear...
