    20% of coral reefs dead

The best thing you can do for the environment? Seriously? Go buy stuff. Improve the economy of the world around you. As countries grow, they buy prosperity. As they develop prosperity, they start to look after the environment around them. The Great Lakes are cleaner now than they...

    20% of coral reefs dead

Saildiver - what if I told you that the one you're fighting is yourself? To say "they won't do it just because they don't want to spend the money" is simplistic and dangerous. Unfortunately, one of the resources we have to balance our use of is the available economic resources. Let me...

    20% of coral reefs dead

OK Bill - you asked for comments. Where should I begin... as you may be aware, the international scientific community has been thrust into a debate on the merits of the science itself. The controversy lies over the “Hockey Stick Model” which claims to plot global temperatures back 1,000...

    warm wetsuits

I would be pleased to show off old pictures of me in my Mares Isotherm. It's a great suit. But it's still a wetsuit... and in cold water, it's really not an option. ESPECIALLY for a repetitive dive. You WILL get wet, especially after the suit 'wears in.' Once I went dry, I eventually sold...

    Dry Suit Death?

Andy - I would think there's a world of difference between a brass helmet and a fabric bag. I would think that the suit would rip before such a thing happened.... if on nothing more than your protruding bones. (Ick.)

And to no ones surprise, they're blaming global warming instead of destructive fishing practices or human interference. Ho hum, ho hum. Until they start addressing genuine issues and stop throwing hysteria into the politically correct 'crisis du jour', we'll continue to see more of the same. :(

    Women's BC Hunt!

Mer - I hate to be the first one to chime in with something I know you'll hear a lot of, but seriously - have you tried on a backplate and wing? I know I sound like one of the stereotypical "yeah, that's good, but have you tried a BP/Wing" zealot, but the beauty of the system is that it...

    warm wetsuits

Valerie - be warned, this is going to come off as harsher than I intend for it to sound, but... ...with tons of respect, if you're so focused on your camera work that you can't perform basic dive skills like attending to bouyancy and exposure gear, you should put away the camera until you're...

Diver Alert Network Not Worth The Money

Oh, I'm sorry fgray, I misunderstood. In that case, the answer to your question is, "Absolutely, it's worth the money!" After all, that means you have no depth limit and can dive mixed gasses. It also gives you extra coverage in the event of a serious DCS incident. After all, that could...

Diver Alert Network Not Worth The Money

I'm sorry fgray - can you direct me to the question in: "Guess I won't be renewing the policy this time around. Just thought you guys might want to know before you waste your money." or "I my opinion that makes the policy worthless."

Diver Alert Network Not Worth The Money

I can see the post a year from now: I'll happily pay DAN this year, and next year, and the year after that... there are story after story about people who TRULY had their butts in a sling (way, WAY worse than a hurt shoulder) and DAN came through for them. Let's not ignore the thousands...

    Din Conversion of tanks/regs

The E7-100 is made by the same folks - PST. The reason you'd use it over an E8-119 are because it's smaller than an AL80, lighter than an AL80, and holds more air than an AL80. Pretty tough combo to beat.

    Din Conversion of tanks/regs

Why? Get an E7-100. Slightly smaller than an AL80, holds more air, and is negatively bouyant, meaning you can take 5 lbs off your weightbelt. Plus, it will last forever. Aluminum is essentially disposable.

    Din Conversion of tanks/regs

    A) You shouldn't be handling 4,000 psi with a Yoke connection on your reg - it's not secure enough, nor will it be rated to handle that pressure. B) I doubt that you will be able to get fills for a tank of that pressure. I know the max capacity for most places around here is just over 3,600...

    Din Conversion of tanks/regs

Hi Michael. You need to purchase a DIN converter from a Mares dealer - they will have or can order one for the MR-22. I don't know if it's the same for other Mares regs too. Offhand they're usually the plus side of $50 or so. If you buy it at your LDS, they'll be able to put it on for you...

Do all agree ATOMIC is indisputable best!!!?

So you want us to confirm what you already think? In which case, why bother asking for opinion? It sounds like you don't want opinion, but affirmation? For example, if I were to post "Actually, ABC reg is the best, and here's why..." would you believe me? I just fail to see the point...

    Wendy's new mottos...

Yeah, "Great emotional disturbance," I believe that. I think what was more "emotionally disturbing" for her was her history - she basically sues for a living. This is from http://klastv.com/Global/story.asp?S=3187216&nav=168XYT17 Forgive my skepticism, but there's probably some dead...
