Looking at you @stuartv! I'll be heading down to Manassas for two weeks in late August for work. I've been laid up all summer, unable to dive following surgery, so I want to take advantage of the warm weather while we have it and get some diving in! Anybody have recommendations for shops, sites...
Thanks Gizbar! Yup, I was referring to the fantasea as having the double o-ring seal. My Nauticam makes me a bit nervous with one lonely o-ring, but I guess that's what the vacuum check system is for. Haha.
Hey, if you're interested I'm selling a brand new Fantasea Housing plus i-Das tray and some other gear. I have the Nauticam housing as well so I was able to compare both and I was actually really impressed by the quality of the Fantasea housing. There were some features I wish the Nauicam had...
Most folks will probably recommend the 120 since it's the same diameter as your HP100s, and for a while I was super gung-ho on buying one...until I actually tried one. I'm 5'10, athletic build, and I found that I trim out much better with the 117 than the 120. It made a surprisingly large...
Nice find! Like @BenjaminF said above, Semi-Dry is sort of a loose term that describes any wetsuit designed to limit water movement in and out of the suit. This will typically include rubber wrist and ankle seal at minimum, as well as taped seams. My Hollis Neotek Semi-Dry also has an internal...
As someone who has a tough time finding a mask that doesn't leak (until i finally found the Hollis M3!), the spectrum is on my short list. They were demoing them at Dutch Springs recently, but unfortunately I was laid up recovering from surgery and couldn't go.
Honestly, it was a cost vs. reward decision for me. In my perfect world I would have bought a housing for my A7ii, along with the necessary ports and the confidence to replace the camera if it flooded. In reality though, I was able to build a really nice compact setup, complete with the widely...
I guess one thing to consider is that the Hydros Pro is a no compromise BCD. It's relatively lightweight and good for travel, however, it is just as capable as any other BCD in other roles, and it's built to last. I'm sure the Biolite is a great travel BCD and it seems to be a couple ounces...
I did, actually my instructor is an Oly rep so I had a chance to check out the full line in person. Ultimately I decided to stick with Sony for a couple of reasons. For personal use, I was already shooting with a Sony A7ii (I use a Nikon d810 for work) which I love, so I was familiar with the...
Yeah, I thought that was weird. In the direct shot there's a clear difference, but in the mirror shot they look great. I guess it's time to get them underwater and find out for sure.
Mine weighs in at 8.8lbs with the weight pockets. If you want to go super lightweight though, you can swap those out for the included harness straps which will take another 2.5lbs off.
I assembled my first serious underwater rig today, a Sony RX100V in a nauticam housing with dual YS-D2 strobes. I'm currently using fantsea fiber cables and the strobes in TTL sync mode. When I take a test shot to make sure the strobes are in sync, one strobe appears much brighter than the...
