    Water Moccasin

I don't think that morays were the point. There are a bunch of eels that look nothing like morays and EXACTLY like snakes.

Scuba = the miscarriage smallness motion?

It must be brillig. Or miller time.

Another day in the life of a PSD.

No apology needed, from you or anyone else. I wasn't addressing anyone in particular; I just sort of rethought my previous post and self-censored a bit. Anyone else notice that many other threads devolve into venomous diatribes or shouting matches but the PSD one rarely does? Perhaps its...

    It hardly seems fair...

I'm not so much talking about the discount (although it is GREATLY appreciated). More so the access to the new and unfamiliar (which, to the newly certified, is just about everything). It was great! A huge pile of gear which we configured however we wanted, hopped in the pool, and tried...

And Pete, Good Luck and Have FUN on your dive tomorrow! Welcome to the club!

    It hardly seems fair...

Don't get me wrong. I certainly enjoy it. And I don't feel the least bit guilty (heck, if anyone deserves to be treated well, I guess it should be me, right?) I guess I was just having one of those "Jerry McGuire" moments where you question why things are one way, and not some other...

    Dumb & Dumber

I would guess that there are more people who have forgotten something which would cause a reasonably prudent diver not to dive than people who have not. So, you're not Dumb and Dumber, you're just New and Newer or Normal and Normaler. When I'm taking students or divers to a site, I always...

    It hardly seems fair...

Last night, a rep from an equipment manufacturer flew to Saipan to peddle his wares. Invited shop owners, instructors and a few DM's to come to the pool to try out a few models from their lines of BCDs, masks, fins, regs, and computers. Gave us a SWEET Deal (non-pros would CRINGE at the...

(6/15/05) Someone tried to steal my float while I was under!

My dive kayak was attached to a mooring an a diveboat hooked up to the mooring. Unclipped my kayak and reclipped it to the back of his boat. No worries. No problem. Until he took off and unclipped my kayak from his boat w/out reclipping it to the mooring. What a SOB.

Another day in the life of a PSD.

Please don't infer from my above post that I have anything other than respect and admiration for the PSD's of the world. Its just that I guess the rest of us (at least I, for one) think of saving drowning kids and placing them into the arms of grateful parents when I hear or see the...

    PADI Instructors

My students (I'm a PADI instructor) are informed that, if I catch them with their mask on their foreheads, they will owe me a sixpack of the beer of their choice. (Young-uns must pay me one diet coke). The kids rarely mess up and usually one adult will mess up within the first or second...

    Diving Emergency Evacuation Plan

First, Congrats on taking the course! I had fun as a DM and became an instructor, and if circumstances permit, maybe you can too! I wouldn't expect most instructors would point you to the direction of a completed EAP. While I do circulate completed EAPs among DM candidates, I don't think I...

Question about men only dive trips

As a guy, I gotta say "let the guys be guys" on this one. Basically, we're all still 22, no matter how old we are. Were I one of his buddies, I suppose I would understand if you were to tag along. But I don't think I would ever let him live it down.

    worst seasickness stories

I never get seasick "on my own" but the only time I've ever fed the fishes was when I had help. A customer just upwind heaved and there was some blowback. The smell was terrible. I checked myself, to make sure she didn't splatter me with her lunch. "Hey, not one drop got on me! I'm...

Shark kills South African spear fisherman

Article about an underwater hunter on SCUBA offshore of Cape Town. You can figure out the rest. http://news.scotsman.com/international.cfm?id=618012005 They estimate the length of the Great White at 20 feet!

Welcome to the Club! But WATCH OUT! I learned to dive in Wisconsin, and now I'm an instructor on a small island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean..... IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU!

    Help me understand this...

In Saipan, most of the pools count the DM as "staff" and there is no charge for the pool time.
