Does the body get better at removing nitrogen?

To answer that specific part of your post, as you get more experienced, you definately don't get as tired from diving. I think it's a combination of better breathing, better buoyancy, more controlled ascents, and basically using less energy to do the same things. I used to be totally shattered...

Teric and Nitrox diving - Rec divers take care re method of changing gas (affects MOD).

The OP (and I've read others talk about this as a "feature" of the Teric) was using a shortcut to switch between Nitrox and Air, not realising that this affected the MOD calculations as the Teric assumed that all gases would be used on the dive, not just the "active" gas. Personally while I get...

How do you use a Crotch Strap

We're watching the same video and hearing different things. Lamar literally says it helps stabilise the rig, stops vertical movement, and is preferred by those divers that care about their trim in the water (1:50). He also notes that the 1" existed before DPV's.

How do you use a Crotch Strap

My Travel BP/W has a 1" strap. I dive that in both board shorts and tech shorts all the time, never notice it. My cold water rig has a 2" strap and the few times I've used it in shorts it's been pretty noticeable.

How do you use a Crotch Strap

I'll choose to disagree. They'll tend to ride up, particularly on the surface without a crotch strap. OP - what kind of strap is it? Is it a 2" wide stiff webbing? If so you can swap it for a 1" or 1.5" strap and or try going with some softer webbing. I wouldn't want to use a 2" stiff strap...

    First cave dives

You guys were kinder on the OP than I thought you were going to be :-) OP watch this-> What you did was a "trust me" dive. You may want to re-consider doing those dives in the future. What would you have done if you'd had an issue or worse the dive guide had an issue?

    1mm or 3mm for Thailand/Indonesia/Philippines in winter?

Everyones different obviously. On the same dive boats i've seen people in 5mm's shivering while others are in rashies and shorts. In general though, in the areas you are talking, I've generally seen people transition from rashies and 3mm shorties in summer to 3mm and 5mm steamers in winter...

Fin recommendation for travel and sidemount

Interesting thread. The Hollis F2's have been my go-to travel fin (awesome at all kicks) but do lack a little power at times.

GUE Fundamentals Class Report (22 APR 2019)

The questions you raised are the same as I did during my training. I won't try to articulate the response because i'd do a poor job and don't represent GUE. But suffice to say I've dived below 40m (130ft) since training without helium as do many other GUE trained divers. It comes down to risk...

Purchasing a wing for cold water diving (Single Tank)

I still dive my HOG 32# wing. It is however the older model.. the only complaint I'd have was the inflator hose was probably 1" shorter than ideal for me. Still looks like new after 100 or so dives. HOG used to be the raison d'etre round these parts till Chris left to start Deep6.

Geezus. You wouldn't see me leaving that cage in those waters. Short distance or not.

    Dive Tables VS Dive Computer

Dive table planning during OW training does in my mind provide a basic minimum understanding of Deco, and re-enforce to people that the deeper you dive, the shorter your NDL. In real life though, pretty much most recreational divers simply "fly their computer" whereby they follow the NDL the...

Teric and Nitrox diving - Rec divers take care re method of changing gas (affects MOD).

Without trying to sound like an ass, i'd suggest reading the manual a few more times. I've just got a Perdix myself so this is based on my understanding from limited dives and reading the manual. When you have several gases configured, the planner assumes that you will use the gas with the...

Teric and Nitrox diving - Rec divers take care re method of changing gas (affects MOD).

Page 68 - ppO2 limits OC MOD. PPO2 PPO2 displays in flashing red when greater than this value and when more than 7.6m/25ft deeper than the next deco stop. (Default 1.4) This is the maximum allowable PPO2 during the bottom phase of the dive.

Teric and Nitrox diving - Rec divers take care re method of changing gas (affects MOD).

Are you suggesting that if you have multiple gases configured, and "quick switch" to a gas with a high ppO2, it ignores that for MOD ? Are you talking about actual diving or in the planner mode? Because I struggle to believe that it would during the dive. In fact the manual suggests that it...

    Taking dive gear backpacking

We travel with all our gear. The last trip was 6 weeks but we were not backpacking. That adds another dimension. We basically have a travel setup with Ali plates, plastic cam bands, STA-less wings, Hollis F2 fins. We take our regs, computer, and can lights in a regulator bag that slips into a...

I'm a newbie who tried a BP/W for the first time today...

Still.. with no wetsuit and a single steel tank you still should have been bobbing like a cork with a 30# wing fully inflated. I sometimes dive with an 18# wing in that config which can be a little marginal at the beginning of a dive, but the 30# should have been heaps. Like you i'm a "sinker"...

    No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

In a similar vein, a diver recently decided to "save" my wife by grabbing her from behind without any kind of communication and trying to "drag her" over to the DM. I had to physically remove her hands from my wife and tell her to calm the F down. All over a leaking Yoke o-ring. In my mind you...
