The "Goodbye, I'm Going Diving!" Thread

Take care, have fun and bring back good pics, Jag. Wish I could go diving too but the boat that takes me is still in the shop. Do you guys get restless after a long dry spell? I'm starting to get ansty already.

    New toy

Yup, everything looks better close up. I wonder if Oly has an adaptor for for attaching the threaded lens directly on the camera so I can use it topside instead.

color correction- raw vs. filter vs. manual white balance

Nay, diebeste, you've convinced me. I guess RAW will be the best option for now. Since the 7070 already has it, might as well learn to use it.

    New toy

pyro, are your lenses the threaded UCL165M67? I'm changing mine to the AD type and I'm not sure what to do with my threaded. If you want a third threaded lens, pm me. I'll sell it cheap and even throw in a lens holder :)

    puerto galera for non-divers

Thanks guys. Ish, cocobeach sounds really tempting. Maybe I'll skip a few dives myself. I hope they'll give us the same offer after Nov 6. Pak, they've already tried intro but sadly, it just ain't their thang.

    puerto galera for non-divers

Hi, What Puerto Galera resorts can you recommend for non-divers? And what day time activities can non-divers do there? Trying to convince some land lovers to come with us on a dive trip but we have to make sure they'll also have a good time on the surface. Cathy

color correction- raw vs. filter vs. manual white balance

crestgel, thanks so much for offering to clean up my pics. Should I email the original sized pics? ejg62, thanks for fixing the pics but I actually can't see them on my screen. We have photoshop elements but I haven't tried fixing photos with it yet. MikeV taught us some photoshop tricks...

color correction- raw vs. filter vs. manual white balance

Jim, those 3 pictures were taken in auto mode but ISO was 80. I use P/ auto because I really don't know which settings work best for WA without a strobe. I guess this is something I'll just have to learn - along with raw processing. Didn't realize I needed a special program for that or that...

    Verde island

Thanks for the info everyone. Sounds like Verde is a real must-see and I'm already excited to go. Our tentative sked is on Nov 18- 19 but we'll still have to decide our jump-off point (Anilao or PG). Maggie, Caloy, Ish, Pyro -will keep you posted on our final IT.

    Inon AD vs threaded lenses

Larry, lifeisfullofgoodidves, you're right that overtightening is a risk and it has in fact happended to me already. I almost ripped off the port trying to get the lens off one time but luckilly the latches are still intact. Might not be so lucky the next time it happens, though. "The AD is...

color correction- raw vs. filter vs. manual white balance

Thanks for the tips Jamdiver. I hope it will help me salvage some old so-so pics. I'm cleaning out my hard disk and am on the verge of chucking out 3/4ths of my old photos. But you are right about not overdoing photoediting. Pictures tend to look unnatural when they're overedited. "RAW...

    Verde island

Magie, Mike, Jag, Pyro thanks for the encouraging advice. My friends will be coming all the way from Davao so this trip has to be worth the expense. We were originally planning to go there from Anilao but maybe they'd like to see PG too. They haven't dived PG either. Caloy, I noticed a...

    Inon AD vs threaded lenses

Great choice, Mike. If I ever flood my housing, that will be my next camera. I actually like the fact that cameras are getting smaller. My 7070 is a bit too big for small hands and in fact Myra had a hard time using it during our last DOR. I'm almost convinced about the bayonet lens system...

color correction- raw vs. filter vs. manual white balance

Jamdiver, that's the original picture without processing. Tried editing it but it just got "noisier":D Most of my "no strobe-manual WB" pics look like that. Photoediting enhances the colors but increases the noise. Any suggestions on how best to photoedit them? MJH - yes, I also think...

    Inon AD vs threaded lenses

That's good to hear, Mike. Changing to AD will be more costly since I have to buy the port, mount converter and 2 new macro lenses. However, aside from ease of use , another advantage to using AD is that the Inon port might be more secure than the Oly (which has weak latches) and this might...

Good advice, Howarde. Will do :)

color correction- raw vs. filter vs. manual white balance

You're right Howarde - setting and resetting WB with every change in depth is a hassle and the reason why I was looking for wet-moiunt filters is because I want to switch from strobe to natural light on the same dive. RAW would probably give me the most flexibility but will it also preserve...

    Inon AD vs threaded lenses

Hi, posted this question in the Oly forum but I thought I'd get more responses out here. Which Inon wet-mount lenses would be best to "invest" in - the AD or the threaded type? I'm planning to buy a second macro lens for my Oly 7070 in PT-O27. What I have is the UCL 165M67 with the 67mm...
