Free Beer!! Free Beer!! Free Beer!!

Del Sur Argentina, hands-down. I'm from Nebreaska and know my way around a steak. ;) Regardless of the online reviews you'll find, Pepe's is horrible. Great service and white linen but the "steak" they served me had recently been the sole of someone's boot. Ugh. Del Sur's not a quick walk from...

Dive Industry's First JOB FAIR at DEMA Show!

Those organizations could probably use you. Their current CMO's don't appear to be working very hard.;)

Oly5050, you are brilliant. Congrats on your success!

Is there anything comparable to Go Pro

Sealife Micro HD. It's new, very simple to use, rechargeable, built-in red filter, internal memory, floodproof, etc. Very nice camera and much more affordable than a comparably-equipped GP. Way better stills than I ever got with a GoPro as well.

    That's not a pitfall, that's an opportunity.

    Future of DiveShops?

I am in shock. Of course, this is only on youtube. This is exactly what we need to see but it needs to be on television. Would I like to have this (if we were PADI affiliated--that's a whole 'nuther story) and tag it with our store information right there at the end. Well DUH!! This is the kind...

    Future of DiveShops?

I can tell you for a fact that, save for the "dingy shop in a strip mall" that you are completely wrong. Replace that dingy shop with a clean, well-stocked and welcoming store and those people WILL sign up for classes, they WILL buy gear from you and MANY of them will travel with you.

    Future of DiveShops?

And you are correct...but it's not going to happen. We've been preaching that very same sermon to certifying agencies, our vendors and DEMA for years. None of them are willing to work together or, for that matter, independently to build such a campaign. Even getting co-marketing dollars...with...

    Future of DiveShops?

There are poorly run businesses in every market segment that exists. There are also those that are well run and, by that virtue, successful. I won't argue there are many poorly run dive shops but I also like cars and guns. There are several businesses in those segments where I wom't spend my...

    Future of DiveShops?

Um, I used to be in other lines of work. And you've owned how many successful businesses? Seriously, we'll celebrate our fifth year in business this summer and have purchased an existing business and built an additional facility in Springfield, MO, 375 miles away since we opened our Omaha shop...

    Future of DiveShops?

I'm scratching my head over 2000% markups and how anyone could possibly make a profit on $5 air fills. They can't, it's as simple as that. If you have a real store, a real compressor and fill panel (and another compressor as a backup--they do break and require maintenance) I don't think I could...

    Do fish like nitrox?

Based on the research I've done (I read the original post here), yes. Fish do like that voodoo gas.

Saved a bunch of SP Mk5 / 109A regs from the trash :-)

We all have vices. Some of us have vises as well. Let's not get into the virtues thing; I'll have nothing to contribute. ;):D

    Lionfish eradicators

We have a group of bloodthirsty killers chomping at the bit to take out their animalistic urges on the lionfish population around Curaçao. Anyone have any experience with operators there who offer such opportunities? I'd sure appreciate your impressions. Me, I just find the little devils to be...

some suggestions would be most welcome for trip next March 2015

Of those, I will say that Little Dix Bay on Virgin Gorda is a wonderful place, definitely "Caribbean" five star. And five star in many other places, too. Diving is there but not the best in the Carib. LDB has an excellent spa, great food and excellent lodging of several types, including a large...

    Liquid Image Scuba 324

Just had a chance to use the new Sealife Micro HD. It's a Go Pro killer for underwater (and topside) use. Excellent video and stills, can't flood, integrated red filter, VERY simple operation, more affordable than a "comparably equipped" GP. I'd recommend taking a look at it. In Coz, of course.;)

Best value 'luxury' liveaboard in the Maldives...

I was on the Duke of York a few weeks ago. Very nice boat with plenty of room, nice amenities, etc. they only offer two dives per day, if that matters. Let me know if you need more info.

HERO2 bit the dust. Time to go shopping!

Do yourself a favor and look at the new Sealife Micro HD. Excellent video and stills, sealed housing, rechargeable, internal red filter, less money than a comparably equipped Go Pro. Should be pretty much perfect for your needs.
