    film vs. digital

Hey, me too! I assume you have a Mamiya (or maybe a pentax) - they do an underwater housing for the RZ67. It's hella expensive though. It would be interesting to see the results from shooting MF underwater, although I don't know if the bulk and extra work needed to shoot MF would pay off...

    Mounting tanks upside down

A nice, easy to read article one guys reasons for using an inverted twinset who actually *dives* an inverted rig, as opposed to making fun of one on the internet. http://www.nigelhewitt.co.uk/diving/rig.html One thing you *cannot* argue is that it's easier to reach to valves. (but Im sure...

    Weighting with Pony?

Firstly, you seem to be using trim and weight interchangably (alot of people on this board seem to do the same thing). I believe trim & weight are two seperate things (although weight *positioning* can affect trim), someone correct me if Im wrong. As to the original question.. I would weight...

HP vs. LP / High Pressure versus Low Pressure steel tanks

How many rods to the hogshead does your truck get again?

HP vs. LP / High Pressure versus Low Pressure steel tanks

When I typed "no flame wars", I meant we don't have flame wars over here arguing about which cylinder is the best and what to overfill to. If you want to flame me, flame away! As far as gas goes over here, you simply multiply one number by the other. 10L @ 300 bar = 3000L of gas. 15L @ 200...

Equipment for DIR-F - what do I need and what can I beg/borrow/rent?

I didn't say you have to be DIR to take the DIR-F class. I also didn't day it would be difficult to find buddies. All I said (in a nutshell) is that I from what I've read, I don't think it's possible to be a "DIR diver" without a DIR buddy. Sure, you can do the class, do the skills & get...

HP vs. LP / High Pressure versus Low Pressure steel tanks

Same in the UK. Tanks are either rated for 232 bar or 300 bar. There is no "overfilling". Most people buy almost exclusively steel cylinders to get some weight off their belt. Sizes are measured as displacement in litres (ie. if you filled the cylinder with water, how much water would it...

Equipment for DIR-F - what do I need and what can I beg/borrow/rent?

No argument there, Mike. It's just that I've read the comment on SB from DIR divers before that "You can't be a bit pregnent" ie. You can't be a bit DIR. It's a holistic system. You can't just use the equipment & skills bits and call yourself a DIR diver (again, this is from what I've been...

    film vs. digital

I haven't read alot of the posts so far (no time), so I may be going over old ground. Both formats have their advantages & disadvantages. Digital is better for a beginner (instant feedback, delete bad images, etc). Film still has a slight edge in quality and dynamic range (eg 7-8 stops for...

Equipment for DIR-F - what do I need and what can I beg/borrow/rent?

How can you be DIR if you are not diving with other DIR buddies? (1) You can't solo dive (it's not DIR) (2) The DIR "buddy team" is supposedly one of the most important parts of the system. If your buddies aren't diving DIR, you aren't either I haven't taken the course, but from what...

    Which BCD for UK Waters?

While some (most?) people on this board will recommend backplate / wing, Im still unconvinced as to the benefits for a single cylinder because even with a twinset, Im prone to rolling around a bit with my diverite classic (although to be fair, Im still in the set-up stage). I bought a second...

    PADI TecRec

MikeF, I don't post often of scubaboard or decostop but I spend more time than I really should lurking and I really enjoy reading all your posts. I agree with almost all the stuff you write and admire the amount of time you spend on educating the masses like myself. Because of this and because...

    Apeks US / CE

okay, so ours breathe a little heavier.. however they are cheaper in the UK (they make them here!) and we can get 100% o2 versions from the factory! (for about £15 more on the ATX series - the TX are the same price)

Plan on diving dry. Don't do it on an impulse.

I got a "free" class with the drysuit when I bought it. I had to sell my Linhof view camera to afford it. I loved that camera... *sob* But I use my drysuit now a whole lot more. My PADI class was one pool session and two OW dives.

    O2 clean reg

    Prompt advice on Smart Com!!

I've done around 10 dives after recieving my new Smart COM and have had no problems with the unit. Admittedly, the deepest I've taken it is about 24M, but it has been in water temps ranging from 4C to 30C.

    Scubaboard meets & trips.

You can probably count me in. (forgot my old password, so created a new a/c btw). Although Id be more inclined to do a dive meet, as I dont drink much anymore. You still have to return the "not doing up the drysuit fully" favour anyway...

"Need" BP ............. for orthopedic reasons.

Im currently researching the topic myself. Diverite are very popular in the UK and I don't think you will have any problems from what I've heard.
