    Dengue fever?

Doc, How do you treat your clothes with permethrin? BTW - I thought it was pretty definite that 100% DEET wasn't necessary - maybe 35% being just as good and probably a lot less irritating. Terry BTW Syruss, if the bugs get a look at your shirt, you'll be safe. ;)

    Roatan

We were in West Bay at the end of March and Feb-Arpil is just about peak season. West End is kind of nice for a variety of dive schools, lower prices than Coco View (I'd guess). Check www.roatan.com for Honduras and Belize. There are a couple dozen resorts Roatan Charter handles. Been...

    The Wife Gets "wet"

Say, RR, while you're looking for the wetsuit, consider how much you'll need in Coz in January. Haven't been there, but south a couple hundred miles, it doesn't take much to stay warm. I was pretty happy in Lycra. Terry

    Macror Photography & Lenses

Yeah, I think you probably could put the two closeups together. Easy enough to tell - buy yourself a roll of 12 or 20 and burn it taking shots of a yardstick with little standup, numbered markers on it every 6" or so. Do this both on the surface and in your bathtub, b/c I'm sure that water...

Well, gonna get kicked out when she finds out...

As has been suggested, bribery is really the only way out of this and you will have to pay big-time, Tex. Pre-emptive strikes work MUCH better than after the fact. You should buy her something real nice for your, er, her pickup. Like new mudflaps, but not those ones with the shiny female...

    SeaLife Reefmasters And Lighting Question

Neil, Someone here recommeded the 3x closeup lens before we ever used the RC, so we indeed took it on the first trip to the Bay Islands. Those shots using it came out much better (thanks to whoever suggested it), since you can't get any closer than 4' w/o the closeup but within 2' with it. So...

4 or 5 day dive trip???

...at many places on Roatan. Inn Of Last Resort offers a 5 day diver package for $645 vs $795 for the 7 day. Roatan Dive and Yacht Club as well as Paya Bay have 4,5,6 and 7 night packages and I'd bet my dollars to anyone else's donuts that right now, travel slump and all, you can get any...

    Gout, medication & diving

Gout is a metabolic disease caused by deposits of cystaline urate of sodium in the joints (ouch!). Ever ready to provide a link, here's one from the New Zealand Rheumatologists: http://www.rheumatology.org.nz/nz08003.htm I didn't know people still got gout, but it's a form of joint...

Diving facts/rumors/ anything like that ;)

...cuz I don't buy the "lies, damn lies and statistics" line of thinking. Since I'm an engineer at heart, I hate to admit that there are problems that don't lend themselves to a solution. It would seem simple enough: What's the relative safety of a group of sports? That turns out to be not so...

    SeaLife Reefmasters And Lighting Question

Netdoc, First, thanks for confirming how the strobe is supposed to work. Couple observations on why your external strobe may not be firing. I noticed my Reefmaster didn't always fire it's internal flash, especially when I tried to take a couple shots in quick succession - that'd cause an...

Diving facts/rumors/ anything like that ;)

...is that there are probably very few deaths associated with say, bowling. The US Coast Guard keeps stats on scuba deaths and it's for sure that the severity of accident has something to do with the overall safety of a sport. It's also true that the US Coast Guard probably doesn't know about...

    SeaLife Reefmasters And Lighting Question

Margaret, I've got a Reefmaster RC too, but no strobe - yet. Can't figure out how the strobe is supposed to work since there isn't any sort of electrical connection to the external strobe. Does it fit over the little internal flash and activate off of it? Terry

Diving facts/rumors/ anything like that ;)

Butch, LOL! Recently saw my brother's bowling league and I'm here to tell you that divers are much more buff - these bowling guys might have had balance problems with their beer guts, doing incalculable damage to their ankles as a result. Being in shape allows us divers to keep ankle...

Gaucho, Check out this link. There are pictures for a bunch of Belizean and Honduran dive resorts, prices, and naturally people willing to make reservations for you. http://www.roatan.com/ Depending on what you want (I've never been to Belize), check out the prices for the Bay Islands in...

    Well folks it's official

Ed, Given that this isn't life support/critical equipment, I'd give serious thought to buying one online thru ebay. I see one Nikonos V with lens that failed to get a bid at $100! I'd send email to the seller and see if s/he still had it and wanted to sell... Here's a list of preivous...

    Well folks it's official

Maybe it's time to buy a Nikonos body? Reading between the lines, I'd guess that Nikon would bring out a digital camera next, but whether it'd be any kind of real replacement for the rugged SLR is not certain. Terry
