    Deep Blue - Utila

Hadn't heard of LBR and your trip report is excellent. How long were you there to get in 20 dives? 6 days! That's a bunch, two night dives in addition to 3x per day. Wow! =Terry

    Deep Blue - Utila

We're going to Utila (again) next Feb. for a week or so to dive. Has anyone had experience + or - with Deep Blue? We got one very positive recommendation from a diver there at the time, while we were with Utila Dive Center, which was ok, good even. But if we're gonna spend another week...

    Little Corn Shore Diving

...tho we didn't snorkel, there were a couple of snorklers there who said nice things about it - sharks and all sorts of stuff that the divers also saw. We had one afternoon dive delayed while a group of snorkle-types went out, which means that Woz and Ellie will schedule a snorkel trip if...

    Roatan Restaurants

...Bite On The Beach (fresh fish and right on the water) between West Bay and West End has the best food. No idea how FI compares, but the rest of the food on Roatan was distinctly mediocre and fairly expensive. =Terry

    Little Corn, Nicaragua

...in Mar/April '03 and spent a week each. Both are great places and you won't regret either one. Utila has night life and stuff going on besides diving. Little Corn is much more remote, quieter, more peaceful. The diving at both is wonderful, deeper at Utila and less than 70' at DLC. Only...

    Lost Passports in Utila

I keep scans of my passport and my wife's on the web that can be brought up and used as id at most consulates or embassies. On the subject of who nabbed yr passport, I'd guess that it was not someone off the street. UDC and anyone else in the biz who wants to keep touristas coming around...

Great Big Thread of Scuba Tips and Tricks

If you backroll off a boat, it often works better to inflate your BC a bit before you hit the water. Keeps you from sinking too far and leaves you in better control. Also on a backroll, try not to roll over upside down completely. Very dramatic and fun, but I always get water in my ears...

Mango Inn...Someone HAS to have been there...

...and it's one of the nicest places to stay on Utila. I think the BICD has a nicer hotel kind of thing, but that's a bit more expensive than we wanted. I recommend the Mango Inn. They are associated with the Utila Dive Center and you can get terrific rates for doing both at the same time...

    Dive Little Corn Island

Let us know how your stay on Little Corn is working out: where you're staying, if your diving or snorkelling, how the food is, etc. That's a place I'll definitely go back to. =Terry

55-60 deg F?! I can see why there are penguins there. :) =Terry

    Galapagos Aggressor

Gaz, Thanks! That's definitely nippy. Wonder why it's so cold? Real deep water around or no continental shelf to help warm it or what? I'm planning on a trip to the Galapgos maybe next year and am now advised to go for 6mm minimum. I do vaguely remember seeing some sort of penguins on the...

    Adjustable Fins

I haven't used adjustable fins since I was a kid, but now am the proud owner of a pair. This question is so stupid that it maybe ought to go in the Newbie section, but here goes... Do you have to wear booties with adjustable fins? I've had my foot chewed on by the non-adjustable types and...

    Sealife RC-35 External Flash Reusable?

Hi, I've got a Reefmaster/Sealife RC-35 35mm camera but am hesitant to buy the external flash that goes with it because I'll probably buy a digital camera in the next couple years and haven't got the money to spread around. The external flash unit for the RC-35 works by mounting the...

    Dive Little Corn Island

The boat ride over from Big Corn to Little Corn was the 4pm run and a bit on the bouncy side. Cathy's recommendation to get a life preserver and sit on it worked real good. :) The ride back was a morning run and a real piece of cake and took a lot less time, too - maybe 25 minutes vs. 45...

    Reccomendations for resort in Roatan

Of the 3 Bay Islands I've been to, Roatan is my least favorite, but for personal reasons: expense, overdeveloped, big... If you're looking for small out-of-the-way, I'd pick Utila or Cayos Cochinos - good diving on both. =Terry Roatan Charter

    fat folks and diving

Here're 4 definitions of _MO_ in a link below. Sorry if I rung anyone's bell about the term and I used it advisedly. I understand that it's a "medical definition" and that's how I intended it. I hope that everyone including way out of shape and way overweight as well as a whole host of...

    Nose bleeding inquiry

...diving with a guy who said he got nosebleeds all the time, but the only time I saw it was on our "deepest" dive of 70' within a couple minutes of deco time - around an hour as I recall. His nose bled for a few minutes and stopped, but this was a pretty experienced RD level diver. What's...

    fat folks and diving

...but I believe that your drag through a liquid is proportional to the surface area in the direction of flow. Mobidly obese (I'm sure that's no one here) presenting twice the forward surface area are going to require twice the propulsion through water and twice the effort. Considerably...

New Respect For The Weight Belt

I think that was the cause that it simply slipped off. I did examine the belt afterwards and notice that with the plastic buckle in the "locked" position, you could slide the belt out without too much effort. I changed my selection at that point to use a) metal buckle and b) nice rough...
