Hey Bas.. You're right, come to think of it. I believe they are called Great Adventures. In fact I think I still have their visor from that time. Since I leave it in my vehicle at all dive sites, I guess no one really wants it! I dove with them about 15 years ago when we stayed at HV & enjoyed...
HV has an outside restaurant called La Balandra which is really like a pier with nautical decorations. If you entered the water there I would estimate only a 5 min swim underwater to S.S. If memory serves me correctly they used to have a line crossing the channel as a guide. I have not made this...
Leannek..I'm sure all the rooms get serviced by the cleaning staff after a guest leaves. I suspect they would not leave a suit on the balcony to greet a new arriving guest. If anyone did that to ours I would not be happy since it would imply the cleaning job wasn't very through! Why don't you e...
New Ruu..As a long time traveler to Bonaire, let me answer some of your questions..
Like the old west? No, far from it. Bonaire has got the diving thing down to a science. Diver's paradise is on all the license plates and it's very fitting. They've had a lot of practice at it.
H.V. is a great...
No problemo Rythmmaker.. Always good to keep folks honest! ;)
I must have made over 100 dives at The Lake. It was always one of my favorites, simple and quick to get to since I'm in Belnem, fairly EZ entrance and a wonderful dive with the double reef system. Going back next week & can't wait! :D
No auto Insurance company in the US will provide physical damage/liability coverage for a rental car/truck on Bonaire. However, we ALWAYS decline the rental coverage & use our AMEX gold card which charges us I believe a flat $25 to provide this coverage. Never had a problem and saved a lot of...
Thanks for posting..Great trip report & photos to boot. On the subject of photos though, shot # 4 is definitely NOT The Lake (which is NORTH of the Salt Pier, the start of the double reef system).;)
Uncle A..get ready for some fine diving & bring some good hard soled boots for the shore dives.
Regarding your question, I think the best thing is to do the boat diving a la carte. You may take a day & do a double tank dive off of Klein to see how you like it. I would not add the boat dive...
Deco..Obviously this is PURELY a personal preference. IMHO, the sine qua non of Bonaire is the ocean...PERIOD. Therefore I want to be by it, I want to wake up to it, have lunch by it as well as view it with before dinner drinks while watching the sun set into it. To me, that is what Bonaire is...
Hey Jim..I'm certainly glad that you didn't grab the wrong bottle of vinegar! A word to the wise, I've seen bottles of vinegar sold on the island which have a much higher acidic content than the 5-7% commonly sold in the U.S. Always pays to check exactly what you're buying.;)
yea Tonka I have many, many times. But between you & me I have never worn gloves on any dive on Bonaire during the last 25 years. And that includes north, south, east, west and Klein.
Tonka: Well to my knowledge gloves are NOT permitted for entries/exits. So why don't you show us the rules to corroborate your statement? To my knowledge the ONLY exception for a diver without a med certificate is descending a support line on a wreck which may be covered in stinging organisms...
GypsyJim..I've done my share of diving on Bonaire, but personally would never chose to dive the "White Hole" from shore. Ouch (big time)...You would have done better at Cai with a local guide like Bas if you wanted to try something different. Live & learn as they say. Jeepers another year before...
Hey Annie.. I can always use a cold one. Hope to see you this trip! You're always welcome to come over for cocktails or perhaps dinner in or out..I suspect know your drink of choice (made with real Bonaire Seasalt & fresh limes..no stinky mixes) :D
