Quite agree Sue..Bas is the consummate dive professional. Made several dives with him in the past however I have not been at Boka Onima. Certainly sounds like it was a lot of fun!
Well I'm going to throw my 2 cents into this one as well. Firstly as you all know (and I make no secret of it :D) I own on Bonaire. However what you may not know is that I've spent a good 30 years traveling the islands of the Caribbean always with the intent of buying after I sold my property...
The diving is great off our sand beach, the water's warm and clear,
The fish and coral are numerous. The views from VINIBU are to die for.
Vinibu, Bellevue #9, Bonaire, Dutch Caribbean--Welcome
Could the explanation be as simple as they all did boat diving or dove off a pier with steps? :D
Take it from the folks who dive Bonaire. If you plan on doing shore dives get a good pair of hard soled boots and open heel fins.
Liz...Wishing you and Ed the best. Get well soon. Sorry to hear you were in the hospital. I'm sure you'll make the right decision on the real estate offer.
Melissa..All good advice above. Me? I aways have a small shears attached to my BC. Doesn't really take up room & you never know when you'd need it. Leave the knife & safety sausage at home.
Clothes? Really you don't need much. Give more thought to money than clothes!
I firmly support you using...
Annie..To my knowledge ONLY after there is a signed contract with STINAPA.
Generally those individuals consist of the dive masters as well as folks who reside on the island.
Jenn. the answer to your first question is yes. However different hotels have different policies. The accepted rule is to stop at the dive shop associated with the hotel and inquire what their policies are.
There are many many easy spots on Bonaire for beginner shore divers. You certainly...
Very wise!! Never dove BC, but I did the Jersey shore which had it's share of waves, currents, 55 degree water, rips etc.
However usually the bottom was sand. NOT generally the case on Bonaire.
Don't let the placid ocean fool you. No doubt many folks have underestimated & fallen down...
Believe it or not, I never dove small wall. Will have to check it out this winter.
We're both the same age. I do intend to do shore diving at 80; perhaps at 100 I'll be confined to boat dives only.;)
Well I strongly suspect the problem is that you "went all over the west side". There are many sites on the west side which my wife with RA & bad ankles is not capable of diving.. BUT, there are many sites which are EZ where you can just walk right in..Just to name a few...
1. Something Special...
Countess.. really it's no secret that many times folks do fall on an entry or exit. My wife has RA with bad ankles and for the last 5 years we have not had any falls. The idea is to do a through analysis at a dive site if you are unfamiliar with it and use precise navigation (I always use a...
That's Plazita Limena not 'pizza limena'.
I've eaten at them all, but there are so many great places to dine on Bonaire (and many are not on the list) that you've got to try them yourself, and then you be the judge.
.
My "favorite" happens to be Cappriccios, but then again I'm "partial" to...
Isaias..There is a high degree of competition on Bonaire in the diving industry. Consequently, they deliver a high level or service. I've dove with quite a few dive ops over the years & can honestly say that anyone I've ever dove with would be a good fit for a beginner diver. Just be up front...
Hmm..Something "fishy" about this one. Perhaps I'm missing something here. But does someone really need to take a course to learn about Lion Fish? There's loads of information and videos for free on the internet! To help an instructor sight lion fish? Isn't this what many divers are doing...
Amanda..Simply put, you're gonna love it! Absolutely no need to rent equipment at home & haul down to Bonaire. Although I have my own equipment on island, I would not have any hesitation at all with renting equipment down there. Get off the internet and look forward to an enjoyable trip with...
Bas..Glad to see them moving in this direction. I posted on this over a year ago that it would eventually come to utilizing a spear assigned to specific individuals to remove these reef marauders. Any idea if STINAPA will allow some form of protective accoutrement, ie special gloves to be used...
