Rough return time from Buddy Dive's morning boat dives?

Well the only (IMHO sane) way you're going to dive Rappel is from a boat. Of course legend has it (yes there are photographs to document) that the first divers (Bruce Bowker and co) at this site did it the old fashioned way. They were and still are trailblazers, extremely knowledgeable and...

    Rental Truck Vandalized

Well I've got to change that copy on my website since now I AM retired and do spend 3 months a year on Bonaire. Indeed, I've observed many many things over the years we've been visiting Bonaire and other locales in the Caribbean. Regarding the crime rates, as the island has matured indubitably...

    Rental Truck Vandalized

I've been a keen observer of the human scene and do agree with the age old adage that when it comes to human behavior; "There's nothing common about common sense".

Rough return time from Buddy Dive's morning boat dives?

I think the diving at Klein is generally better than the shore dives. Of course the time factor is whether you do one or two dives on the boat. I've watched the dive boats at Klein and they all generally follow the same pattern. Even if you're doing a 2 tank dive, the dive masters generally want...

A few generalized questions about Bonaire -- namely, electricity requirements

What you really have to watch out for are electrical devices with motors. If the device is rated 60 hz it will die a slow death at 50 hz. For those rated 50-60 hz, no problems (most computers). Regarding devices without a motor, ie TV, toasters etc I really have not encountered any problems...

    Recent Sand Dollar experience?

Just had lunch at Between two buns yesterday. Fantastic sandwiches for about $11-$12. This is operated by the same woman who ran Ely's (which later became Elly's).

    Where to stay in Bonaire

KT..I've stayed at many locations on the island and own at Bellevue. We have an easy all sand beach entry right in front. We use Buddy Dive at Belmar (a 30 sec drive) for tanks. I think you'll be more than happy with the interiors. Just google vinibu for our website.

Place to find current water temps?

Constant 79 degrees the last couple of weeks. The sun however is as hot as usual! Windy today and tomorrow. Next week the winds will abate a little.

    Question about LATE night diving

Craig..In brief, "the pool" NEVER closes on Bonaire. I have in the past gotten up at 02:30 and decided to jump in. (Well in all honesty I forgot my strobe on an earlier night dive out back and as I was looking at it from my seaside terrace realized that the flashing strobe was mine; so decided...

    Your favorite bonaire restaurant

Well for us, the best pizza which was consistently good was at the Pizza Temple at Habitat. Nice thin crust..

    killing lionfish in Bonaire?

ABSOLUTELY. The current laws state they must be accompanied by a divemaster or instructor who already has signed a contract with STINAPA. For those who are questioning the efficacy of Bonaire's current policies, I can tell you first hand that they definitely appear to be working in...

    killing lionfish in Bonaire?

OK, let's get this straight. The rules on Bonaire are quite strict. In essence: Tourist engaging lionfish hunting activities need to go through the lionfish training that STINAPA and CURO agreed of any other sanctioned course available. Once this course have been completed, tourist divers can...

    Buddy Dive - bad attitude?

We have always found the staff at BD to be friendly & accommodating. Sorry this was not your perception. Whenever I read a posting as yours, I often wonder what the other party's version might be. Those folks who work in the dive industry, constantly lifting tanks, doing repair work, dealing...

    Nautilus Lifeline in Bonaire

The OP questioned whether it was advisable to use it on Bonaire. I tried to inject a bit of humor in my response. Between you & me, I really can't imagine how you're going to "die lost at sea" in the placid waters surrounding Bonaire. Yes, accidents can always happen, but they can generally be...

    Nautilus Lifeline in Bonaire

Having been diving Bonaire's coast for many many years, personally I think you should just save your money. Unless you're planning on doing some wild type diving, ie the extreme tips of the island or unguided on the eastern shore, I think I'd rather spend my $$ on a good massage & nice meal...

Suggestions and places to avoid in Bonaire

Doctorfish: Absolutely NOTHING wrong with doing all boat dives if that's your inclination. In our early years of visiting Bonaire 25 years ago, that's all we did. However generally once you start shore diving most folks continue to do it & do boat dives every now & then. I DO love diving at...
