Boycott establishments in The Philippines serving shark fin products.

I totally agree on that. "sili" restaurant in BF Homes, President Ave is serving shark meats for one. Even in Hongkong held "dive expo", they were distributing pins and stickers advocating total abstinence from "shark fin soup"

Was in Hongkong dive expo, saw this carbon fiber backplate being sold by one of the exhibitors, namely "dive formula" and decided to buy one. Still have to set it up though and will check how durable it is once i try it out.

    Whale Sharks in January?

was in sogod bay last few days before the closing of 2010. Although my main purpose is scuba diving, the japanese and korean divers we were with were raving about their snorkelling with whale sharks in that area. Although I myself didn't go whale shark inter-acting (as I don't see the need...

    Shark on the Menu

Today, June 26, 2011, after hearing the sunday mass, had dinner at Pancake House-President Ave BF Homes. I then noticed that there was a new restaurant across named "Sili" and when we checked out their menu, noticed that they are serving "kinunot na pating." I then clarified with the waiter as...

    Will Anilao satisfy?

Anilao for macro? yes but for pelagics . . . just don't set your expectations high. Although schooling barracudas is almost guaranteed at mainit point where if you're lucky, you might also be able to spot turtle or a black tip shark especially during weekdays when there's not much divers around...

Submersible Systems Inc First Stage Regulator

From what I know, Submersible Systems Inc is the manufacturer of "spare air" and the only regulator system that they manufacture is the one that is integrated in their "mini-scuba tank/emergency bail-out scuba tank system" which is being marketed internationally as the "spare air system"

    which Atomic?

If you can very well afford the T2X, then by all means buy it so as to have that feeling, including the bragging rights of having the most expensive regulator in the market. Just imagine yourself in this scenario: you are in the process of setting up your gear preparatory to a dive, some of...

    Puerta Galera / Sabang restaurants

Hemmingway's definitely should not be missed. Also I would also suggest the Restaurant at Atlantis Resort. They have a well-trained chef dishing out excellent cuisine as well as a very good bartender who's very good in concocting mixed cocktail drinks.

    diving accident in Anilao

The dive site is the house reef of Planet Dive Resort and is just about a 25 meters (more or less) swim from the shoreline. The resort usually offers walk-in guests a day-trip package amounting to Php 1,800 Philippine Pesos (more or less $41.00) which entitles you to two boat dives and...

Comparision of 2nd Stages: Apeks XTX100 vs Apeks XTX100 Status

I suggest that you also look into the reliability and durability of the "first stage-status". A few years back, there had been issues raised regarding the same by those who have tried it.

    ebay dilemma

So far I already bought 2 sets xtx 200 and 2 sets of xtx 200 tungsten and in all those purchases and with how apeks are marketing these products, whenever you purchase a set of xtx 200s, they usually come with a free xtx 40 octopus and as tortuga68 mentioned, an interchangeable exhaust vent...

Bag for 2 sets of gear?

the XS Scuba Wheeled BackPack Gear Bag (costing 223.99 at DivePro) can very well accomodate 2 sets of dive gears (hoods, booties, full wetsuits, disassembled BPs/Ws, masks, fins, snorkels, SMBs with reels, whistles, back-up dive lights), with enough space to even accomodate the 2 regulators...

    Southern Visayas in August???

Going over my dive logs way back May 2009 when its supposed to be summer and waves are calm, we were not able to dive balicasag Islands as waters are rough and to everyone's surprise, "habagat winds" are already upon us. But we nonetheless had a blast diving Doljo and Napaling Point. Returned...

    Dive shops in Metro Manila

300 bar moved to a hidden warehouse somewhere in Pasong Tamo Extension. I was there about 2 days ago. Unfortunately, they don't have much stocks anymore since they are concentrating more on marketing their liveaboards namely the MY Vasco and a soon to be launched "Siren"

Cheap overnight near/at airport in Manila

The problem with other hotels is they may not be suitable to your minimum standards for a decent place to stay overnight. But if you're not really picky, there's Eastgen Airport Suites, Nichols Airport Hotel, and Hotel Carlston.
