Diving 32% Nitrox with "Air" Algorithms

Basically, your average basic trained scuba diver isn't going to run into issues with Oxtox or 02 clock doing basic dives, basically. I did 2hr SI for the most part and did a dive every two hours from dawn to dusk most of the days I was diving for quite a few years and often using nitrox and an...

Dive sites of the coast of South Carolina

Less than a third has been scanned with high resolution multibeam and stuff has gone down since some were done. There's probly a dozen wrecks I've dove that aren't scanned and are outside of MPAs and SPAs. Eventually there wont be much new stuff left. That balloon with get a full forensic going...

What has changed in the Scuba industry in the last 10-15 years?

Split fins aren't trendy anymore. The laws of physics have been rescinded so weight in a side mount rig isn't affected by gravity. Scooters can cost as much as a small car. Travel emitting tons of hydrocarbons and responsible for plastics filling the oceans is considered environmentally...

Best full foot fins for current: Atomic SplitFin or Sea Wing Nova?

Splits suck in current compared to many other fin. As do all the bendy fins. I tried most as they came out and used to recommend them overall but they're just not as useful or versatile as quattros etc... The best fins for current are freedive fins. When swinning in current with professional...

Is cave diving safer than Open Water

The only way to find an honest answer is to quantify the injury and death rate per person or per time unit. Subjective opinions without data to back them are what we do best here though;) It is a subject that has been studied a bit. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27723015/

A different take on Master Scuba Diver

I have always compared Master " divers " to Master " baiters " In fact it's how I refer to them. In construction trades a Master is rarely conferred on anyone with less than 10 years experience and demonstrable mastery. They are also normally able to teach, so maybe instructors would better be...

A different take on Master Scuba Diver

I think CMAS has already done the heavy lifting on that for me. A little consistency between agencies couldn't hurt.

    TUSA RS-812

Mine Tabatas breathed better than my MK20 G250s or MK2 R190s. I've heard Tabata makes regs for other top manufacturers, not sure if true.

Experienced Divers: What are the most common "oh, crap!" situations?

A walking diveshop instructor getting on the boat. A new diver with a camera, scooter or speargun. Having a Mola swin up in green 15' vis after a GW was spotted earlier.

Simon Mitchell - Should divers treat DCS in-water?

Never saw on of those on an ORCA EDGE, Marathon or Skinny Dipper. Guy has been spearfishing probably 50 years commercially and has broken quite a few bones skateboarding, he is an outlier who will likely outlive Keith Richards.

Simon Mitchell - Should divers treat DCS in-water?

Half Half hour or less in the water resolved most cases completely. This particular guy was back diving the next day. He'd been bent several times before. They get in the water on 02 immediately if any symptoms occur or if any deco was missed because of annoying sealife.

Simon Mitchell - Should divers treat DCS in-water?

Disclaimer. Do NOT construe this as advice. I have seen IWR resolve issues from pain to partial paralysis when I was working on long range commercial spearfishing boats. We were always 6 hours to a day away from shore. The dives were minimal if any deco but up to 40 dives a week in depths 80'...

So many keyboard heroes wanting to maim or kill a human for something like this is more despicable than anything the idiot that pulled the antenna off did. You self righteous losers are the reason the world is in such a state of conflict now.
