Why Backplate and Wing? - BP/Wing vs Jacket BC

How does a BCD support you better at the surface, especially if you're going with a back inflate?

Primary for my future tec class

I just got a Dive Rite EX35 and love it. It's super bright and is much more affordable than other lights out there. The Focus 2.0 seems nice and has a cool focusable feature, but all the GUE guys at least run their lights on the smallest spot possible and the light has no spill to light up the...

drysuit boots, size 12 foot, XL Jetfins dont fit...at all. Will XXL even come close?

XXL Jet Fins are massive compared to the XLs and I suspect they will be too big for you, they were for me. Try XXL XS Turtle Fins

    Southernmost cave/spring dives

Probably Blue Springs - Orange City, Alexander Springs, or Paradise Springs. Blue Springs is closed to diving in the winter for manatees though. Also, Alexander is max 20ish feet deep, and Paradise is a cavern dive. Blue Grotto is a pretty good tune-up/training site

First dive at 40 meters - Newbies recreational

Please re-read, this was kinda a work in progress. Was on my cell phone so had to save post, got back to your original post for the details, and then edit/continue with mine.

First dive at 40 meters - Newbies recreational

Others have touched briefly on this, but if you had a catastrophic loss of gas at depth and needed to share air, you likely wouldn't have enough gas to make it to the surface/complete deco. You said there was a safety bottle hanging at 20ft, but you were drifting with the current? So that bottle...

So you’ve completed your OW Scuba Certification….now what?

Props to you I guess on wanting to become a PSD diver. Zero interest in doing this. You're often diving in super nasty water with zero visibility and are working by touch/feel only. They often call it Braille diving because you literally are blind under the water and are working by touch.

    Katana 2

I bought my rig from Cave Adventurers, it looks like they may have already done this for me, but instead of the bungee running through the tri-glide itself (it looks that way in your picture), they ran the bungee through the loop of webbing that the tri-glide creates.

    Katana 2

This wasn't a class, just a buddy taking some pictures/video at Alexander Springs. I just read some online articles/watched some videos and asked a couple buddies some questions regarding the best way to rig the tanks, etc. In answer to your questions, I am clipping the bungee to hold the wing...

    Katana 2

Here's another picture from my first sidemount dive. Again, I did fix the wing lifting issue. Would love to get your thoughts and any suggestions/critiques you may have.

    Katana 2

Here's a photo of my second dive in sidemount by the way. Tanks seem like they're trimming out super nicely but I'd definitely be open to critique. I also got some videos of my first dive in sidemount at: Ryan - Google Drive In the videos of my first dive you'll notice the wing lifting a lot...

Who much space do you allow between BP/W shoulder straps and your chest?

A good rule of thumb is if you're wearing the plate and harness and reach over your shoulder and down your back you should just barely be able to touch the top of your plate with your fingertips. Perhaps even loosen the straps a bit from here and make sure your crotch strap is fairly tight.

    Katana 2

Some additional info about my setup. I switched from double Faber 108s (white paint) and am diving the same tanks sidemount. I'm wearing a trilam drysuit with a 200g undergarment in fresh water. I have 12lbs of weight and when I jump in prior to attaching tanks, I'm positively buoyant. This is...

Covid's impact on your diving ...

Increased my diving a ton. I was also provided the opportunity to move back to FL from OH and am working remotely full time. It did cancel a Bahamas Liveaboard trip I had planned though which was a bummer.

Can't find a good movie or documentary about Scuba diving

Unfortunately you may need to view it through their TV channel. You can find it on Sling TV and through a couple other cable providers. The episodes come on at 6pm Est and you may be able to search within Sling to view a few of them on demand. Might be worth a trial.
