Marc Hall made the same suggestion to me, but I was a little unclear about it. It would be great to see a photo example, Robertphillips5. Do you know a good place to purchase those pockets in San Diego or Southern California?
Thanks for your response! I appreciate all of the other...
Yes, you are right, I am wearing a 2-piece wetsuit and diving in cold San Diego water. I have been doing single tank diving, usually AL80 because a lot of the rental places nearby don't have steels.
Thanks,
Raposa
I purchase a BP/Wings set-up and now I need to stop renting a weight belt.
I want to find a solution that is more comfortable than a weightbelt, but is not bulky so that it negates the benefits of having a BP/Wings set-up in the first place.
I have not heard great reviews of Halcyon's...
Yes, you are definitely onto something with the dryer. If you can get a deal where you get the dryer and the booties then I give them my full endorsement.
The booties do keep me warm. I have the 7mm version. They are just a little loose around my ankles and even though I put my wetsuit...
I have been happy with them overall. There is one problem though. They don't dry very well, not enough air circulation because of the narrow zipperless opening.
I end up stuffing them with newspaper after each dive so that they can dry on the inside.
But for fit and comfort I like them a...
The zipperless bootie is good but has one problem. It doesn't dry very well. Without stuffing it full of paper or something like that it won't even dry in a week!
I had the same problem looking for fins (and booties). The booties you use will make a big difference here. All of the booties I used were either too wide or too short.
For me the size 11 Henderson Hyperstretch (no zipper) booties fit the size XL scubapro jetfin very well. If you use a...
I am new to diving and I recently purchased the Halcyon 36 lb Pioneer set-up. It is not hard to adjust. Since it is fully adjustable it fits better than any BC I had tried previously.
I was also not sure about getting a backplate and wings set-up at first, but I had a chance to rent one...
The weather here is almost always mild. It is not too hot in the summer (and is never humid). It is not very cold in the winter.
The water temperature at depth is almost always cold though. Often it is in the low 50's F. If you have good exposure protection it is a great place to dive...
You are writing from experience and I am from speculation (I am still new to scuba) so your arguments for your choice makes sense. Especially if you have enough know-how to check them out yourself every once in a while to make sure things are ok.
I have had that experience in other...
I understand waiting to fix it until there s something to fix. Costs can add up and I suppose there is the potential to have it come back worse than when you brought it in.
Still, for me it seems like a good decision to have regular servicing. For equipment my life didn't depend on I...
I just went through the same thing myself while looking for a regulator set-up.
You should be able to find a deal at your local shops as someone mentioned in their annual sales. I just got certified this past summer and already two shops have had their big annual sales with very competitive...
I have seen cases where the original jet fin straps have come off while a diver or snorkeler was swimming. Probably it was user error, but I think that the design of those straps is not the best. Personally, I exchanged them for the spring straps and all has been good.
I have been very happy with my custom fit jmj wetsuit. The worksmanship is very good and they use a high grade of neoprene. I also heard good things about them on this board before purchasing the suit.
Their prices are reasonable for a custom suit I think. I am not sure if they make a suit...
Got it. I dove it for the first time today. I really like this system, it is very comfortable. I was worried about getting the back plate/wings system since I am new to diving but I am really happy with my decision.
Thanks again!
I'll admit, I was skeptical of the idea of swimming out with a steel plate on my back with no padding.
But...
I bought the Halcyon set-up and dove my new gear for the first time today. Everything went very well. It was not even uncomfortable on land. I suppose that is because the...
I just realized that I had accidently posted my trip report as its own thread instead of in this one! No wonder there were no replies...
Thanks again for the advice!
We had a great trip to Monterey. It is really beautiful up there. Quite a different feel than the San Diego beaches...
I think I am going the BP/Wing route. I found what I think is a good deal and since I actually tried the Halcyon set-up and liked it I think it is a decent choice.
A LDS is selling the Halcyon 36lb system, a ScubaPro MK18/G250 HP regulator, and Scubapro R390 Octopus for $849. I asked for...
