Ethan is the first diver I've certified in over 8 years. I hope to teach a few more this year and have found springs that will be my "pool". If anyone on the trip wants to get NitrOx certified, just let me know.

    DIN vs YOKE (USA)?

I've seen tanks fall over with both yoke and DIN. Neither first stage survived unscathed. However, the knob on the yoke is a definite entanglement hazard. I was co-teaching a class in the Keys, and my co-instructor used yoke. We were on the Speigle and a single line snagged that knob. He was...

Phew!!! @BigFoot has finished the open-water portion of his Scuba. All he has left to finish is the academic portion, and he assures me, that he will finish it tonight. AOW starts on Monday.

    nitrox downsides

Consider extending your safety stop to at least 5 minutes, and even a bit longer if your air supply allows. Fatigue is a common symptom of preclinical (mild) DCS.

    Best Reg for Cave diving

Dayum! D6 regs don't take near that long to rebuild!!! ;D ;D ;D There's little difference between modern day regs, in my opinion. D6 are more economical, incredibly easy to rebuild, and the second stage needs no tools to take the purge cover off. I've gotten stuff stuck in my exhaust valves...

Ethan, @BigFoot, has finished his pool work, and has completed his first dive. Even the turtles were impressed with his trim and finning! We aim to finish tomorrow.

Water leaks into mask because of nasolabial lines (next to nose)

A slight pressure into the mask will keep that water out unless you're diving upside down. :D

Provocative talk yesterday at NSS-CDS: Toss out the rule of thirds?

You're missing the point. That's OK. I can't remember the last time I hit thirds. Thirds is only a tool to make a rough plan with. If you want to push that tool to absurd limits, you'll often get the dive you deserve, but not the one you want.

Ethan improves with each day. We would have stayed longer and done more, but there were 3 classes coming into Troy today. We got out as the crowds meandered in.

Provocative talk yesterday at NSS-CDS: Toss out the rule of thirds?

The chances that all of one diver's gas will evaporate at your greatest penetration is pretty remote.

    Cave Training

Florida is far, far more challenging, and so the caves are far more consistent in how they are lined out. If you can dive in Florida, you can dive in Mexico. Hell, you can dive most anywhere. Mexican caves are more decorated and that can be alluring. What's right for you? For me, it's all about...

He learned the mystery of threading cam buckles today. I've known instructors who couldn't make them work right. :D The BC is all put together and we'll dive in the morning if the crick don't rise. :D

My descent into becoming a RAID instructor...

For International, yes, probably. RAID USA is actually a "Distributor for RAID in the US." I really don't see this as a problem.

They are incorporated in the country they are operating in, so they are indeed, CEOs.

My descent into becoming a RAID instructor...

Different rules for different coutries. All US based agencies require insurance, though that's not required overseas. So you'll find that there's a PADI American CEO, and then there's an Asian CEO as well. I think that's true of NAUI as well, but I'm not sure.

Yesterday was @BigFoot's first day on Scuba in a BC that didn't fit quite right. We call him bigfoot because he's 6'5" We are using today to have him assemble a hybrid backplate and wing, customizing it to his liking. So far, so good. We're desperately seeking cambands at the moment. I know I...

Deep 6 is a great option for regs nowadays. Parts are incredibly easy to come by, and they are also easy to work on.
