I think the best mag for beginners is Dive Training. Undercurrent is the Consumer's Report for diving. Rodale's is ok for showing you what's available on the market (gear, destinations, etc.)

You should be careful on the mainland. I assume, based on your package, that you're going through Roatan Charter. Talk to them. They can fix you up with a trip to the Copan ruins, a whitewater rafting trip, a trip to Pico Bonito park. Ask them for their free honduras "things to do" booklet...
