Ooooh, Jeff, I'm so jealous. Did Isle Royale a couple of years ago and it was great. We all really enjoyed the diving and the island. Just haven't been able to get back there. Do post a trip report so I can live vicariously. :)
Heat packs are "rechargeable", sealed packets (differing sizes) that generate heat when a button on the pack is pressed. I don't know the physics of them. A friend of mine used them extensively and swore by them (until he got his dry suit). After 6-7 years they're still usable. They're...
Those temps will be tough in a 7mm. Heat packs might help, if you have 'em. Pre-warming with hot water is another idea.
Best suggestion would be to get used to that dry suit quick.
My wife and I went there some years ago. It is indeed casual and rustic. Kind of like staying in your friend's summer home. The McCoy's are very nice folks.friendly
And you will LOVE the diving!!!
Played a bunch of instruments. Settled on guitar. Used it to help pay for college. Now I just play for me. Kottke, Fahey, ragtime, etc. Guitar is wind-down time when I can't dive.
Dee,
I agree absolutely! We've seen an amazing amount there. It stuns me that folks will swim in from the Albert and just cruise right on by, or hang like the dead at the chain and NEVER ONCE look around them. We've done a number of hour + "safety stops". :D
Your trip must be soon, eh...
Four of us went last summer. I posted a trip report. If you want any other info, PM me.
You'll LOVE the diving.
Do toss off a Skullsplitter for me at the Ferry Inn.
My favorite is Coco View. The reef hits the sand at about 15 feet. We've seen an amazing amount of stufff, from reef squid to morays to scorpion fish to sea horses. (I'm sure Dee will agree with me on this.)
I agree. Safety stops are way underated.
