    Roatan Shark Dive

I appreciate your point of view and respect it. I have to say though, that there are many more people who care about sharks as a result of having a chance to swim freely with them without fear. Sharks need all the good PR they can get since they are being slaughtered at a pace that - if...

Anyone going to AKR on the 25th?

Sharpnose puffers - photo taken in 2009 in Roatan. I saw quite a few at the time, but wasn't sure what they were.

Anyone going to AKR on the 25th?

I have been reading that there is an explosion in the population of sharpnose puffers all along the west coast of the Caribbean from Mexico, Belize and south through the Bay Islands. Did you notice anything like that? I have also heard that: 1 - Some of the morays are a bit friendlier than...

    Roatan Shark Dive

Disappointing to see at least two of these girls had hooks still embedded in the corner of the jaw with fishing line trailing behind. I participated in the Waihuka shark dive a couple of years ago and wondered if one I saw then - with a hook and short length of line trailing - was one of the...

Anyone going to AKR on the 25th?

I'm finally starting to get excited about returning to Roatan for my second dive trip to the island. My son and I are staying at Anthony's Key and will be traveling from Atlanta on Saturday (June 25th). I was wondering if anyone on SB is making the trip from ATL this weekend?

    Bonaire 2011 (HD) - Video

Very nice! I spent a week there last summer and really enjoyed reliving my trip by watching your video. Bonaire is awesome - and your video is excellent, too! Nice footage, good camera work and editing. Thanks for sharing...

To log or not to log.

The only contained-water dive I have logged is at the world's largest aquarium environment - 6.3 million gallons. 40 minutes, max depth 30 ft - 4 whale sharks, 4 giant mantas, hammerheads, blacktips, sand tigers, and sand bar sharks. Pretty memorable dive... :-)

Anthony's Key Special - LAST DAY TODAY (May 19, 2011)

I booked a trip to AKR yesterday - they are doing a BOGO - buy one at regular price, get the second person at half off. I booked the week of June 25 - July 2 and am very excited to be going back! Anyone else going during that time? I went two years ago and had a blast.... I love...

Could be trouble for leisurepro and others

I appreciate your counterpoint, Nick. Always three sides to every disagreement - Pro, Con and the "real deal." Just to make clear - it's not "my" shop. I am not a retailer and don't work in the industry in ANY capacity. And I appreciate the service that on-line merchants provide to...

Advice for spending a month in Bonaire...

Check with Harry at Tropical Divers - he has a couple of apartments adjacent to his dive shop and I was able to get wireless access from the shop while I was there. They also can help with Nitrox.

Could be trouble for leisurepro and others

Conspiracy theorists seem to be one of the most vocal groups on Scubaboard! You certainly have every right to voice your opinion - but I wonder how many people out there (silent or otherwise) actually: 1. Appreciate their local dive shop. 2. Got into the sport initially after walking...

    Intensive Caribbean diving - where?

If you haven't yet booked your hotel - check with Harry at Tropical Divers - they put me up in a nice apartment, provided a truck and unlimited nitrox fills, plus a guide for our first dives and I only paid about $750 pp for the week. There was a slight upcharge (not much) for a single...

    AKR or somewhere else

Cnote: The thing with the sand fleas (or no-see-ums) is hard to predict. I normally don't get bitten by bugs much, but I ordered the cactus juice on-line in advance because I had heard it worked well and that the bites "could" be a problem. My girlfriend and I went to AKR and spent a week. I...

    O2 tank explosion

A friend of Rick and Cindy has set up a blog where you can find more information and offer both moral and financial support. Rick lost a hand and part of his arm as a result of the accident and they need all the support they can find: Get Well Rick Thanks!

Home Owners Association - Going Ballistic

Friends; I was surprised and shocked to learn that the people involved in this tragic accident have turned out to be friends of one of my good friends - and well-known and respected underwater videographers. They are in need of any support they can find, Rick lost an arm in the explosion...

    Average age of Roatan Divers

I spent a week at AKR last year - they assign you to a boat for the entire week and you see the same people every day - not everyone goes on every dive, but you get the idea... Not too crowded, either - we never had more than 10-12 divers on-board - sometimes less, and for the size of the boat...

    insta buddy nightmares

I usually am with someone I know and trust, but have been paired up randomly a few few times. Most of the time it went very well, and I have on several occasions been paired up with someone much more experienced, and had the opportunity to learn from it. I remember doing a shark dive in...

    Oceanic White Tip Shark

I think what Vladimir was referring to was the poorly-documented (anecdotal) but rather well-known instances that occurred in the Pacific during WWII when large numbers of wounded sailors were sometimes dumped into the open ocean as a result of naval battles and ships sinking. The shark most...

Need Advice for new divers first dive trip

If I was taking a non-diving spouse or kids who had other interests besides diving - AKR in Roatan would be at the top of my list. So much to do, most of it is included in the price, and the diving is wonderful, too. You can still do the jungle canopy zip-line tour, and the dolphin research...
