Top 5 Favourite Dive Sites in South Africa

Hmm interesting, some may like easy shallow dives in nice warm water, others may like deep cold tech dives, so its probably very subjective but I'll chime in with these 5, Aliwal Shoal - anywhere really, Raggie cave and Cathedral is very good, the pinnacles can be great if there is no surge...

    Souplair Tarzan (Beuchat ) label

Hmm, interesting, I assume you are refurbishing an old Tarzan?. However I think you will struggle with that one, its probably from the late 40's early 50's, I doubt even Beuchat France has one in their museum, certainly I have never seen one there. That said, I would suggest starting there...

Marketing: Are we ok, or do we need help?

Yes indeed, as they say "Hammer on the nail". Actually you make very valid points all round, I was involved in this business for over 20 years and was an international attendee to Dema for, I dunno, maybe 15/17 years (I use the past tense as I am now retired) but frankly, in my opinion Dema has...

S.s. Andrea doria : A journey of adventure

Thats quite interesting as I also have a keen interest in the Andrea Doria so I would be interested to see the movie as well, I'll need to see if I can find it somewhere a bit more accessible to me though. Dan Crowell ........now there is a character...:D

    What Regulator is this?

Yes very interesting indeed, one of the more rare regulators I would say, certainly I have never seen one before and I have been in this industry since the mid 70's. It could be there was an association of sorts, I wouldn't know for sure, but Submarex in my experience was more known for its...

    Sodwana Bay

Yup, and they had proper Jacket type BC's, very upmarket and modern, seeing as most of us who used BC's were still using the old horse collar type with twin tanks and a J Valve. :D .....many didn't even use a BC. SPG and Depth Gauge??..........most of us had ONLY heard of them, never really...

    Sodwana Bay

:D - Ha, Ha, dont feel too bad, the big pile of cylinders they just dump on the beach can be very confusing at the best of times, all yellow and all look pretty much the same, it can happen to anyone. These days Sodwana has so many operators and camp sites I was wondering where you stayed and...

How cold is it by you?

Thats quite incredible, how deep would that snow be.? Really looks quite stark and bare in the winter pic. ---------- Post added January 9th, 2014 at 08:06 AM ---------- Beautiful...........how on earth do you get your car out from under that and surely you cant drive in those conditions? I...

How cold is it by you?

Yes, indeed, I hear you, one kind of gets used to your local conditions, but to me its always interesting to see pictures of different weather conditions, especially the extreme conditions it appears some areas are experiencing now.

How cold is it by you?

Good heavens,.... its been around 36 degrees celcius (about 96 F I believe) for a few weeks here in SA now and I was considering complaining about the heat, but I think I best just keep quiet. :D ..but in all honesty I cant quite imagine the weather at -10 F or more, it must be brutal. I...

    Sodwana Bay

I have been diving in Sodwana since the early 80's when you pretty much needed a 4x4 just to get to the Sodwana Camp entrance gate the road was that bad, and the only access to the beach was over a sand dune and through the river, you needed a good 4x4 with an air intake snorkel to drive...

Worthington closing plant where scuba cylinders are manufactured

Yes, I hear you. It will be interesting to see how it progresses. Personally I dont believe there is sufficient market for another Corporate scuba cylinder manufacturer, numbers are just too small and hence the reason Worthington all but mothballed the scuba production out of Heiser. Norris...

Worthington closing plant where scuba cylinders are manufactured

Worthington bought the old Jos Heiser plant in Austria many years ago and have all but completely stopped Scuba Cylinder production there, this basically left Faber as the dominant manufacturer of Scuba cylinders for a substantial time now in the international market.

Protea Banks, Aliwal Shoal & Tofo in March? Help Pls?

Oh yeah, okay, maybe I misunderstood you a bit as I thought you were looking for a cage dive where they draw the shark right up to the cage with bait, but this is a little different in that they simply (or hopefully) bring the shark into the area, no actual feeding or luring of the shark up...

Protea Banks, Aliwal Shoal & Tofo in March? Help Pls?

Thats a big list of questions. There are no Baited Tiger shark dives that I am aware of, actually drawing sharks in with bait (chumming) is a somewhat controversial issue here, but never the less, the only caged dives for big predators is for great whites, theres lots of operators you can...

Scubapro Tank valve rebuild kit/parts question

No Problem, this is not a high tech application (air use only) so a good quality silicone grease will be fine. Dow Corning makes some great ones in smallish tubes if you can get it, otherwise you could get a good quality one from most marine shops locally I imagine.
