    Bauer compressor oil

I think its a Chemlube product (ie) Chemlube UL-751 (you can also get UL-800 as well I believe) - as I seem to recall seeing it as recommended in a compressor manual somewhere sometime back. I am sure folk more familiar with the Chemlube line of lubricants will know for sure, but, that is my...

    Bauer compressor oil

Yes, locally I think Chemlube is very difficult to obtain as well. I believe The "LM" oil referred to in the attachment you posted is "Liquid Moly 750"?, also very difficult to obtain here unfortunately, so Locally Anderol 755 is used when a synthetic is required, but from my experience it...

    Bauer compressor oil

Many thanks, thats an excellent, very informative answer swamp diver. As locally most operators use the Corena P150 it is especially useful. I really like the tip to keep moving the oil to smaller containers to keep the air above the oil minimal, makes perfect sense to me and something one can...

    Bauer compressor oil

Actually I have noted that with a few petroleum based oils locally. Here mineral (or petroleum based) oils are used extensively and I often used to see a colour difference when purchasing, (ie) darker... especially when purchased in smaller quantities usually in clear or semi transparent plastic...

    Where to go November/December 2015

Mozambique is a difficult destination to get to on your own, probably if you did decide to go there flying in and out is easiest, I would suggest Tofu as the easiest to get to, driving from Johannesburg is possible to Ponta da Ouro or at a push Ponta Malongane but again, unpaved difficult roads...

    Cape Town Dive Festival 2014

Hmm, interesting, who runs the festival as I dont see any listing? I am assuming this is not the same as the regular annual Scuba Pro sponsored event? Dont know, but as I have a holiday home in Cape Town I may just decide to spend a week or so stocking up the wine cellar and get a dive or two...

Nitrox / O2 problems in Tofo, Mozambique?

Hmm thats strange, even though Mozambique is a difficult destination logistically, I have dived a lot there (Tofu included) over the years and I have never been made aware of a shortage of O2,.... so certainly I would not say its "usual". However my feeling is they would not compromise safety...

How frequent are delays on LAM, Inhambane to Johannesburg?

Indeed flight changes especially in Mozambique are "iffy" time wise at best. I think you would be wise to rather stay over and JHB is a great city to spend a day or two in anyway. There is lots to do and by just exercising a little "standard big city street cred" you will be fine, even as a...

How frequent are delays on LAM, Inhambane to Johannesburg?

In my humble opinion any time schedule out of Mozambique is "approximate" at best, you may be lucky, but I would definitely overnight in JHB. I have only flown LAM once to Maputo and return, it was on time out of JHB but was 90 minutes late returning, under a no time stressed scenario its...

Valve made in China. Harrison brand. Should I use it?

Harrison valves are actually excellent valves and sold and used extensively all over the world. This is a major ISO accredited manufacturer of not only Scuba valves (which is probably the smallest part of their business) but industrial valves, medical valves and pressure regulating valves. I...

Marketing: Are we ok, or do we need help?

Hmm, interesting line of thought,.... could very well be the case, I cant say for sure, but its certainly something to think about.

Marketing: Are we ok, or do we need help?

Yup, that entire scenario is, for me anyway, quite frightening but sadly the way things have gone. Just by way of comparison, I have worked as a volunteer at our local Aquarium for years, here they have what is termed a volunteer programme whereby you can sign on and work on a volunteer basis...

Marketing: Are we ok, or do we need help?

Yes, I agree, the point I was trying to make was that internationally we have an abysmal retention rate in Scuba, and personally I believe its due to insufficient training on the very first basic course. I believe people also like a challenge, I am not advocating running around with a tank above...

Marketing: Are we ok, or do we need help?

100% spot on. Courses have just become shorter and shorter to the point people now "qualify" over two weekends. I agree with you, this is a real issue as how on earth can a person be comfortable underwater after such a short time? Truth is they cant,.... but I understand the shops / schools...

Top 5 Favourite Dive Sites in South Africa

:D - Yeah, I have been a lot more active than I usually am as well, just because I am loafing in the mountains of Mpumalanga at the Crystal Springs resort for two weeks - so I got some free time sitting on the veranda with a beer and my laptop. :D Just springing to mind is the wreck of the...

Marketing: Are we ok, or do we need help?

Yeah, I hear and agree with you Wookie. I do think though there is still a huge amount of value in the Dema name and what it represents, but just feel its been resting on its laurels for too long, been slow to adapt to the rapid market changes and doesn't seem to understand the market very well...

Top 5 Favourite Dive Sites in South Africa

Great to hear, coming from California you will be very familiar with Cape Town diving, very similar type of marine environment. I dived off Catalina Island some years back, it was fun, lots of kelp and lots of seals, very similar to some spots in Cape Town, but I cant remember the site's name.

Marketing: Are we ok, or do we need help?

Nice post carltona, I like the light hearted way you put an excellent point across. The sad truth is Dema is about trade markets, and sadly I think trade markets are conditioned to look to the quick easy selling item, it takes too much time and effort to convince a buyer to buy say a special bag...

    Souplair Tarzan (Beuchat ) label

Interesting, no I hadnt actually seen it, thanks for the info. I think (pretty much like today :D) a lot of rebadging went on, simply not sufficient numbers to warrant proprietary products, but thinking about it, I think it would be sad to see all these old pieces of scuba history just...

Top 5 Favourite Dive Sites in South Africa

Indeedy, local dives are usually the ones we do the most so they tend to become our favorites, but dang....getting in that cold water......takes a lot of getting used to. :D Yes, just seals and seals and a few more seals, most likely Duiker Island as you suggest, I cant remember, but a fun dive...
