    Wetsuit in pool

No it won't from a practical standpoint; no different than a typical life of a wetsuit. Do 1-2 pool sessions per week for a year and then you'll notice a difference between a pool wetsuit and an ocean-only wetsuit. The mild chlorine will slowly discolor any black to charcoal & do a very minimal...

    Missed deco stop, lock out?

Sherwood computers are a full reset including nitrogen load. The function is intended for Dive Shop Rental Fleet use, not computer/user error. The manual actually only alludes to the potential, but you can only get the actual button combo by contacting Sherwood with dealer status.

    Tank Valve Stuck Open

Ok so coming from a gear tech, the whole turn back or don't turn back debate. A) If you full palm grip and turn any valve, hit the last turn and then budge it more to "make sure it's fully open", then yes you should turn back a little. This is a preventative action for a problem the user...

    Optimum BC for various setups

    1) If you’re going to dive a single tank, you use a backpack/wing set up for a single tank...right? Backplate & "singles" wing; usually rated between 18-40lbs of lift 2) If you’re going to dive with twin tanks, do you need a different backpack and wing? Same backplate but with "doubles" wing...

Is there a technique to banging on a tank?

The shorter but especially heavier the object, the louder the bang. Try a double ender bolt snap or a 9/16in wrench. Seriously, the wrench is the best. Pointers generally flex a little bit so you don't get a solid hit and the lack of mass in it doesn't create a loud bang. For technique, you'll...

Pros and cons of various compasses ?

Most advantageous when using a Console mounted compass. When using that setup and viewing the compass side window, you can't use it at 0 degree horizontal trim easily without extending your arms way in front and almost above of you. You'd need to go extreme feet down trim. The 30 degree tilt...

Pros and cons of various compasses ?

What everyone said. Most scuba compasses you find on the market are 1 of 4 types: Sherwood Brand Suunto Brand Scubapro Brand Off-brand (DGX, PiranhaMFG, Trident, A-Plus Marine) Off-brand is literally all the same compass module from the same source, just with different mounts. All 4 types work...

Weight for BP vs BCD: Is there a typical % drop?

What's your brand, model & year out of curiosity?

Weight for BP vs BCD: Is there a typical % drop?

I don't have to "drop" weight when swapping between stock BC's and backplates. Think of it more like you're shifting your total negative worn weight so some of it is unditchable. So for you OP, if you go with an 2lb Al plate, you'll probably want to start with 6lbs of lead weight. You'll still...

    Swivel for Reg Question

Let's start by saying Swivels & Angle Adapters are not the same thing. Angle Adapters have 2 points of swiveling; at the hose & at the reg. Swivels (like Omni Swivel) have 3 points of swiveling; at the hose, at the reg, and in the middle of the swivel ball itself. Go with a 90 Angle Adapter...

Forgot to switch dive mode from nitrox to air for my first dive of the day. Now what?

24 hours if you want to follow your computer; at that point it'll be completely cleared out and your body should be too. Otherwise you can plan off tables starting from that original 1st dive to know what your NDL will be for this upcoming dive. With that option, if your tables calculation...

I'm challenged with: Deep Yoga-Style 'Diaphragm' breathing vs Buoyancy Control.

No, that's not what I meant. We don't exchange gas between the avleoli and blood that effectively that slow deep breaths are the answer to every mental stimulation/active situation you put your body into. Also, to just throw this out there: you don't do extreme slow deep breaths when you do...

I'm challenged with: Deep Yoga-Style 'Diaphragm' breathing vs Buoyancy Control.

This is skip breathing. Consciously altering your breathing with the priority to conserve air. That is a do not do in diving. There's a good chance to accumulate CO2 and hog space for O2 transfer especially under exertion if you keep the hyperfocus on maintaining this breathing cycle. This is...

Alternate fin spring strap for atomic aquatic split fin

You should create a separate post next time to create less confusion between answers to your question and the OP's. You'll want a spring strap that has the Small Post attachment that Atomic uses. Highland Spring straps or XS Scuba Springs straps are alternatives that come with the mounting...

    Jet Fin Revo fitness

Spring straps won't help with a boot stuck in the fin. You'll want to wiggle the fin left and right to take it off your boot. Put your leg in a figure 4 position while on the boat ladder and get wiggling. It's most likely not suction but the rubber thread on your booties causing the fin to...

    boltsnap clipping

Those barrel bolts are not pull to open. They're 180 twist to unlock then open. Close & 180 twist to lock. The twist is not spring loaded, but ball bearing resisted. They are absolutely 2 handed use. There's a screw on the shaft that corrodes & breaks out, which causes the shaft to shift and...

    Scuba gear for Southwest Florida?

I use the NOAA buoys a lot for travel to the Keys to check water temp: NDBC - Station NPSF1 Recent Data Keep in mind this is surface temp, so 40ft+ down it can be a few degrees colder. I would have less trust especially in middle of summer when the air temp is really hot & the sun is shining...

    Halcyon Eclipse wing shell repair

I had the same thing happen to a horsecollar BC. Same material and tear type, too much unraveling to sew back. The problem with a sew job is you'll need to gather the material in more and it'll be a very noticeable blem; that and most home needles will poke "big" holes which the material will...

What do you wear under your drysuit and undergarments

Nylon/Polyester fitted T & underwear; just wool socks for the feet. I haven't felt the need to use long johns yet. I found the athletic gear absorbs the majority of the sweat, so you can prolong the undergarment wash. Think of it like a flat sheet for your duvet.
