    Question tubahata liveaboard

I did a week on the Infiniti and highly recommend them. Very safety conscious and were very good at grouping the divers into similar skill and air consumption levels. The boat is extremely well built and rated for any sea conditions.

    Insuring Camera Gear in Canada

Having been with many divers who lost cameras; the first insurance anyone should get is a secure tether that stays clipped to a D ring any time you are close to the water.

Liability of Agencies for their instructors??

Nope, Horse Collar. Manual inflate plus a CO2 cartridge for emergency. BCDs existed but only as pictures in magazines. Same with Alternate second stages. In the words of my instructor “Those are for rich guys, and you’re not rich” Many regulators only had 1 or 2 LP ports. I remember an ad in a...

Liability of Agencies for their instructors??

Nope, they were in general negative and had to keep moving and kicking to stay off the bottom. I took my original training in 1979. We worked very little on buoyancy. Skills were on our knees.

Replacing lead weights with US nickel coins

Very interesting, I immediately tried looking up my local currency but your calculator doesn’t include Canada.

Ultra-compact regulator for travel - Mares Vs Aqualung

Not about these regs in particular, but I find the bulkiest items to pack are the hoses. You could probably save a bunch of space by disassembling the regs before travel - though the most I’ve ever done is take off my dry suit inflator hose and replace with a plug before heading to warmer...

Question Trim position in a BPW?

I never thought I’d use a quote from @happy-diver in one of my classes but this one I love! I’m going to use it on the next diver I see that goes totally limp and descends butt first, feet up until their tank hits the bottom. Also to the OP: whatever you finally end on make sure you have...

Error INCIDENT IN PALAU THAT COULD HAVE BEEN REALLY BAD

Definitely a hard decision here. It would make a big difference if I was guiding the in trouble divers or if I was just another diver on the boat, there to see the pretty fish. Just another diver myself: I’m doing whatever is safer for me. I might also be against you trying to swim to get them...

Error INCIDENT IN PALAU THAT COULD HAVE BEEN REALLY BAD

I’m not the OP but am an instructor and formerly a lifeguard and lifeguard instructor/examiner. I’m also a very good swimmer. You don’t want to turn 2 victims into 3. Not being there I can’t know if I would have judged the conditions too risky to attempt to swim to them, but it certainly...

    Strange event, no air

I’d give the two points mentioned in your final paragraph much higher priority than your take away list. Stay close to your buddy Or Carry a pony or other redundant gas supply

NDL at very shallow depth (6.5m)

Actually, the reason to adhere to the deco guidance is to prevent injury or death. This is still the case even on computers that will not lock you out if you happen to survive. That said showing an NDL at 6.5m, assuming the OP had been there some time or at least ascended slowly to that depth...

Not all BCD hoses fit all inflators?

My scuba pro LP hose fits both my Scubapro and Aqualung BCDs, but my Aqualung hose will not fit my Scubapro BCD. The nozzle on the Scubapro BCD is about 1mm longer.

    Question Electricity question

Search Amazon for Universal Travel Adapter and you’ll find several choices for about $25. They can plug into any outlet in the world and have several USB charging ports and one pass through plug. I’ve used mine on all 7 continents just fine. I plug my phone, E-Reader, watch, camera, tablet and...

Wrist mounted computer (not big and square), that has large(r) text...?

I guided a diver who had set her Teric to large pink numbers. It was very easy to read from several feet away. I was also impressed with the display on another diver’s Suunto ocean.

I’m just happy that the Chairman’s back has recovered to the point that this thread is about electrical code.

    Carrying a pointer stick

Mine is still hanging on the shop display wall. It is secure and streamlined there. Don’t like the things. That said I had a guide in Fiji who used one effectively to point out a multitude of truly tiny critters. It was much easier to spot the critter following the extended line of the pointer...

    Where to go first?

Club Med Turks and Caicos. Excellent diving. The boat departs right from the resort. Lots to do topside between dives. Try the trapeze at the included circus school. Or tennis lesson or sailing. Or take a short walk to the puppy rescue place and for a small donation take a puppy for a walk...

Question Suunto Eon Steel Black Safety Stop

Actively check. Otherwise how do you know you did the stop? Maybe you were at 6.1m. Maybe it was only 1 minute. Here in the murky water I can’t always accurately tell my depth without looking at my computer. Nor am I that good at estimating elapsed time. The Eon has a nice clear by the...

Info Should you look for a Good diver or a Good-Natured diver for your next trip buddy?

I’ve done liveaboards and resort trips solo several times always sharing a room or cabin. Look for someone who doesn’t snore! On one liveaboard each of my two cabin mates handed me earplugs. Not much sleep that week.

Minimum required training to dive to 30m (100ft) with Padi

In addition to many boats requiring Advanced for certain dives, some guided shore dives may require AOW. My shop offers many guided shore dives that require AOW or equivalent due to depths, currents etc. We have others more beginner friendly. AOW gives students 5 more dives with an instructor...
