I definitely use less air in warm water (my AI computer lets me track this)
Switching drysuit and Undergarments to a 3mm, losing the hood and gloves and around 18 lbs of lead along with lighter smaller fins just makes ever thing easier.
Plus I don't tend to swim around as much - as on average...
Phocea sends you from their shop in PDC to their shop in Coz - via ferry and taxi. Then you walk across the street in Coz to their boat. I’ve done it a few times.
Pro: all 1 price and you get escorted the whole way.
A more independent traveller could just arrange the ferry tickets and taxis...
Here's the way I think about Rescue:
If I were to get into some sort of accident / incident / trouble / distress on a dive, would I want my buddy to be Rescue trained?
I think the answer is always: Yes!
I think every diver should take rescue. In the same way I think everyone who does any...
I'd aquaseal and sew a tape covering over the exposed edge. Helps to prevent fraying and wear.
And of course "measure twice and cut once" or even leave it an inch long the first cut and then retry it on.
Depending on your profile it could be normal.
The 2' at 6m is required if you ascend at the computers max ascent rate directly form 39m to 6m. But if instead you ascend much slower than that - stopping to look at critters along the way - the deco obligation can clear because of your slow...
Another way to get a free flow.
Don't rinse your gear well. Over time a large salt crystal builds up between the purge button and the diaphragm on the second stage putting pressure on the diaphragm and causing a free flow.
Solution - rinse your gear well in fresh water after each day's...
Just updated my Eon Core from a PC. Easy and painless though slow.
Took a look at the latest Suunto App on the iphone and confirmed I can edit settings on the Eon from the phone., I was hoping for a little more control than was available in DM5 but it appears to be the same - though more...
The manual also says you can customize the views/display with the Suunto APP - no more DM5 needed for that. In fact DM5 is not mentioned at all!
I think I'll give the app a try to see if I can customize my views a bit more. (Still planning to use Mac-Dive IOS for my actual log though)
Interesting that it lists just one version. I wonder if the previously STEEL only features (Buhlman algorithm) will now be available on the core?
EDIT - found my answer - No. But they have updated the CORE manual to version 3.0. The downloadable one looks a bit cleaner and clearer than the...
I love my ScubaPro Go fins without boots at all in the tropics! And they are very light to pack.
At home I'm a cold water dry suit diver. So no hood, no gloves, no boots is part of the joy of tropical diving for me. Plus the water isn't the color in my profile photo :-)
We have a similar situation in Canada having to send many goods to the US for warranty work. I've had a good and a bad experience with this - neither scuba related.
Good: the manufacturer sent me a return shipping label within minutes of contacting them via website chat. They took care of all...
Travel BCs can be half the weight of regular BCs and just as important can be stored compactly in your luggage.
My Aqualung Dimension, takes up at least double the room in luggage as a Scubapro Hydros. The stiff hip belt really doesn't fold at all. It's great for placing the weight of the tank...
I've got an Aqualung Dimension- love everything about it except the "Sure Lock" weight pockets which are the same as on their travel BCs. These are more like "Sure Loss" since is is fairly easy to get them half clicked in. I now test each pocket 4 times, twice one way and twice another and don't...
Bare has several models with "PRO" in the name. As you mention it just means "Back Zip"
I've got an XCS2 Tech and after around 200 dives it developed a leak at the docking end of the zipper. I got the zipper replaced and no more leaks.
Lesson learned - I'm now much more careful with the...
I don't dive DECO or O2 so am asking out of curiosity. Is it possible to get an O2 fill for SCUBA from somewhere that does Medical O2 fills?
I'm the first aid attendant at my work and have several nearby choices when our medical O2 needs a refill.
I use the compass in my Eon core. Not as easy to line up as my Suunto SK8 but definitely good enough to get me across a fairly featureless flat bottom to the shore entry/exit point at one of the shore dives I often do.
In my drysuit my comfortable arm position isn't perpendicular, so I just...
I’ve got a dimension
Pro:
Very comfortable, can adjust so hip belt takes the load instead of shoulder straps like a hiking backpack. Great for long shore walks to the entry point
Easy to don and doff. Also easy to adjust
Large pockets that are low enough to use easily underwater. I keep my...
Since you mount your tank so low the BCD it would probably be easy to put a second band with a couple pounds of lead near the bottom of the tank which should help.
One extra step in your setup, but cheaper than new fins and you get to keep the fins you like. And way better than ankle weights.
Since you like your Novas - is there a way to move some of your weights lower towards your feet? My BCD has pockets that are lower than most and hang about 6 inches below the main weight pouches. Moving just a single pound from each of the weight pouched to the lower pocket makes a noticeable...
