Plenty of storage space for gear
Fill whip for every diver at their gear station so gear doesn't have to be broken down every time, just take regs off and fill
Space between the gear stations
Some sort of freshwater rinse (the blackbeards trip I was on used the A/C condensate for...
Not having enough air in your drysuit will really reduce the thermal properties of your undergarments. When I dive in colder water I try to carry and pound or two extra so I can get a little more loft in my undergarments and stay a little warmer. OTOH putting tons of air in your suit (more...
I've had all of my dive lights packed in my checked luggage with the rest of my dive gear on several flights with no problems. I usually remove the batteries so that they don't turn on in my bag and wear down. I believe that the concern is mostly for larger lights that get really hot when they...
If you have different colored glow sticks it can be helpful to tell who's who. We did that in our AOW night dives each buddy team got a different color. The other problem with glow sticks is that each color has different brightness. I've found the green to be the brightest.
If your...
My reg generally drops behind me when I let it go if I don't clip it off and seems to be a little harder to retrieve than with a reg that goes over my shoulder. I use a 40" hose that goes under my arm. for my reg recovery's I always had to throw it back behind then recover it anyways so its...
I think the biggest thing for me is the thrill of being able to breath underwater and explore the ocean floor. No matter where you go there is always something new to see and its just amazing to me.
Congratulations on being certified, I hope you never grow bored of the underwater world.
I currently have a 40" primary hose with an elbow and a shorter octo hose. Both go under my arm and keep out of the way during the dive. With the 40" hose and the elbow sharing air is really easy when I donate the primary because the elbow prevents the hose from going into that weird s bend...
If you look at the specs for your computer to will see that it can store up to 150 dives for computer download but will only display the last 20 dives as a log. I don't know how long your trip will be but this might prevent you from having to download your dives.
Here's the link to the specs...
I've got to agree with the OP, it took a few months of reading posts before I had a clue what half of the acronyms and colloquialisms meant, once I learned a lot of the posts made much more sense and were way more helpful. The problem is that a lot of posters don't really look what forum they...
I second this opinion. Glow sticks are really weak and do not compare to a strobe for visibility. I would mark your exit with a strobe or other electric light, the more powerful the better because they can be seen much farther underwater if the vis is good.
I think that the important thing is that PADI's suggestions for weighting are meant as a guideline to get you close to the proper weight so that when you do a weight check you are not really heavy or really light.
Looking at their tables and assuming that they will give you the exact amount...
Where do you get parts to service regs by yourself? I was under the impression that only dealers and authorized repair centers could get the parts kits from the manufacturers.
FYI I have a Sherwood Maximus set.
Its hard to say. If the shop has a big backlog of servicing to do, then its possible that it would take that long or longer, but I would expect the shop to tell me that it will take so long to do when I take the reg in. If they are not that busy that its probably to long and they need to step...
I was also looking at those laws and they are a little confusing, but I think it is safe to say that that it is a very good idea for everyone to wear a lifejacket in a small boat like that. Its hard to tell from the video, but it is possible that they may have recently got out of the water and...
My checkout dives were similar to my pool sessions. We were kneeling on the bottom and did our skills. We also went on a tour of the lake that we were in so we got to swim around also.
IMO there was no reason why the kid should not have been driving the boat. At no time was he close enough to anything to cause damage and he was under direct supervision at all times. As long as you are keeping a lookout and don't drift to close to hazards it is really easy to handle a boat...
