    Spare air exempt from hydro/visual?

I know that they can be hydro'ed, however I don't know if they are required by DOT or any other standards.

    How long does air keep?

I believe he's talking about the fact that steel tanks cam rust inside lowering the oxygen content (and getting rust inside). Aluminum tanks are much less likely to oxidize because aluminum oxide forms an airtight layer over the pure metal protecting it.

    That new suit smell

Unfortunately this is all to true.:depressed:

    That new suit smell

The smell will dissipate with use, and time, not much you can do I don't think.

Who to dive with in Caye Caulker

I dove with Frenchies in 2006 and had a blast. Great crew, and lots of good dive sites.

    Want my bottom time back!

I like my Oceanic Veo 250. Its easy to use with all the features I want from it (nitrox, planning, backlight, programable alarms). It has a more liberal algorithm than the suuntos, and can be made more conservative if desired. I think mine was around $300, however I can't really remember...

How do I tell if my compass is liquid filled?

I've seen this come up a few times and the biggest issue seems to be that the spring component rusts after a few uses. I don't know if rinsing well would help the situation as I haven't used mine underwater, but for $10 you might as well try it and see how it works.

    i know...another gear question.

Even if a wetsuit is going to be ok during the warmer months, a drysuit will allow you to enjoy a longer dive season when the water does get to cold for a wetsuit. While a drysuit is not necessary, its so nice to be dry and warm when you get out of the water that i find the drysuit to be worth...

Have you had a GREAT EXPERIENCE with your LDS?

Ditto for Tacoma Scuba. The guys there are so friendly and make it so much more than a shop. One of the other local shops returned my regulators before they were done servicing them right before I was going diving. Wally at Tacoma Scuba looked at my regs, and lent me a rental set free of...

    What would you do ??

I don't think I would have helped him. I would have helped him up and told him how much easier it is to get fins on in deeper water. Its not your job to put their fins on unless they have talked about it with you before hand.

How do you store your gear?

haha The first time I hung up my gear this summer it scared my roommates the next morning. I keep my gear stored in the gear bag ready to go once its dry. The assorted other stuff is in boxes around my dorm room. If I won't be using the gear for along time I will hang up the BC, regs...

din vs yoke, reg marketing miss?

I know that the Dive Rite regulators are easy to unscrew by hand. I don't know if they are supposed to be taken apart at depth but I can't really see why not. I would imagine that there are a number of regs with similar design that can be easily unscrewed by hand so you probably just have to...

    What is on their backs?

It looked like they just had regular open circuit regulators. Perhaps they are wearing some sort of tank backpack that is streamlined? They definitely aren't wearing normal looking scuba gear, but I think that they are still on open circuit.

Traveling with Dive and Camera Gear

I pack my regs, camera gear, mask and computer in my carry on and check the rest. I haven't had any issues carrying regs through CATSA screening, but they have restricted passengers to 1 carry on and a purse, camera, or laptop bag for any flights going to or stopping in the US. This could...

What suit for Bahamas Liveaboard in April ?

I did a Bahamas liveaboard in February and wore a 3MM full the whole times without any real problems. I think if I were to do it again I would bring a 3mm shorty that I could put over the full suit to give me a bit more warmth as the dives stack up.

    Sherwood reg.

The Maximus is great for cold water, I've used mine in some 50F mountain lakes. I don't know the details about all the regs, but I'm pretty sure that the Maximus is just as good in cold water as the Blizzard. I'm very happy with the breathing resistance on my Maximus and it can be adjusted...

what have you forgot to pack

Forgot my gloves and hood for a dive this summer, but my house was only 15 minutes away, so I was able to get them quickly. I've forgotten a towel a few times which isn't a big deal but is nice to have at the end of the dive.

How much of your gear do you carry on?

I carry regs, computer, mask, and camera as they are the least bulky parts of my gear and the more expensive parts also. I also carry the normal paperwork, passport, some spare clothes, book, music with me, but try to keep my carry on smaller if possible.

What if you glue some thin neoprene or other smooth/ soft fabric to the BC where it is rubbing?

    Question re: P&S exposure controls

I think that it is some combination of shutter speed, aperture, and ISO depending on what camera you have and the conditions that you are shooting in. I would not be surprised to find that camera companies have their own programs that control the exposure compensation.
