    entry/exit observations

I don't disagree with you but some of us cannot develop better balance. I was a high level athlete (soccer, ski racing), but now have an ailment that minimizes all sensation in my feet and lower legs. "More stuff" allows me to dive places I might not otherwise be able to do so. That is likely...

    entry/exit observations

True. I just bought 4 additional rubber tips. The correct procedure would really be to replace the rubber tip with a soft metal (aluminum?) one that is bolted into the cane. We lost our first tip in Feb., but knew it was going to happen sooner or later. I pulled the cane up and the tip remained...

What are some of the most beautiful sights you saw while diving?

We've seen a lot of nice things, but the best was on Bonaire when a large bait ball of bigeye scad gradually surrounded and absorbed my wife until nothing was visible except the blue/black tip of one fin. Not science fiction and she gradually emerged unscathed from the opposite side of the bait...

Also, returning to the surface means you are progressively regaining full weight as more and more of your body extends from the water. Balance, going from no weight to full weight, requires re-calibration of the vestibular system. That is why I proselytize about a collapsible cane as a necessary...

    water temp and visibility

Vis. has varied from 30 to 100 ft. The water has been fairly milky in many places. On the average, vis has been much worse than usual. That said, poor vis on Bonaire is still decent.

Sunset Waters was a great place. Shame it went under.

Believe..........Frog fish!! They do exist!!! WWGUY

I think it is hard to know what is good or bad for the fish, assuming that there is no physical assault on the fish or its habitat. There was a seahorse at Bari/Front Porch, right out in front of the old hotel foundation, for weeks last winter. Everyone could and did see it on a lone soft coral...

    Sand Dollar

At the moment, those electing to use BDA as their operation have access to air/nitrox right at the foot of the dock and can use the dock, either by doing a giant stride from it or walking down the exit stairs. Or, they can go in from shore, but why bother? Those obtaining tanks from Dive Friends...

    Bonaire & Dive Guides?

As others have said, navigation at Bonaire dive sites is generally very simple. I would suggest, if your wife is at all willing to give self-guided diving a shot, that you go to a resort with an excellent and easily accessible house reef. Buddy, Sand Dollar, Captain Don's, among others. You can...

Dive, Dive, Dive Locations other than Bonaire and Roatan

Re the original question. Check out Cozumel. Guided boat dives, 2 per trip, are the norm, but a number of places have decent shore dives which you can do on your own schedule. We have been to Scuba Club Cozumel a couple of times. Not expensive to get there and the stay is quite reasonable. SCC...

    CoCo Beach has Arrived!!!

Stinapa is monitoring the whole thing and it was done with Stinapa's permission. I think what we really should be worried about is whether or not the changes to date are a prelude to further development of the areas adjacent to the beach in the form of another hotel and quasi-privatization of...

    buying apt in bonaire

Don't know, specifically, but the place would not be on the water, would not have AC, might not have running water and would be really, really hot most of the time. The upside would be that it would be on Bonaire. You could also buy a vacant lot and camp while there, but I doubt that either...

    Jerry Ligon--RIP

One story is that Jerry posted messages in "social media" pointing toward this outcome and those messages precipitated a search for him which led, too late, to the discovery at Oil Slick.

    Jerry Ligon--RIP

I am sorry to report that Jerry Ligon has passed away. He knew and loved the birds and aquatic life of Bonaire. The Bonaire Insider - News Item: Bonaire Says Goodbye

    TSandM -- Lynne Flaherty

Dear Peter, I have been out of touch and have just seen the horrible news. My sincerest condolences. The sudden loss of Lynne is most unfair to you and the diving world and so, so shocking. May you obtain closure. Larry

How old is too old ?

68 today. I figure it is more difficult to navigate airports than it is to dive. If I can to that and still assemble my gear correctly, I'll continue, even if it takes someone else schlepping the load.

Hard-soled boots & fins for shore diving

I concur re socks, especially lycra socks. If they are used, you'll probably be able to slip into your wetsuit more easily, too. A clothing version of the plastic bag on foot trick.
