    Fish ID

Good spot! Often difficult to get decent photos. Harlequin pipefish, one of my favorites.

    Reef condition

Friends of ours saw one at at a southern site last week. Could be the same one as they can cover a lot of distance in a short time.

    Post-Surgery: Advice for Bonaire

Most folks who stay at Sand Dollar and Den Laman use Dive Friends which is situated adjacent and between the two condo complexes. By doing so, those who are divers can use the dock which is rented by Dive Friends from the company that actually owns it. Anyone who was a guest at either place...

    Post-Surgery: Advice for Bonaire

With respect to Den Laman and diving therefrom, there is no need to enter from the beach. Assuming the divers are using Dive Friends as their shop, by far the simplest and easiest entry is a giant stride off the dock. Someone noted above that it is possible to hit the bottom when stepping off...

    Why shore diving?

If that's the extent of your interest in diving, then by all means stay home or go elsewhere. One thing I have learned by diving by myself in 3 ft of water for as long as I want and when I want is that there are many, many fish species to be seen where no typical dive master will ever take you...

    Post-Surgery: Advice for Bonaire

I second the suggestion of Den Laman or Sand Dollar, diving with Dive Friends. There are numerous entry possibilities there--solid steps, beach entry or step off the pier. As for other shore dive locations, you can search ScubaBoard for recommendations of dives with easy entries, although...

    Reef condition

My wife and I have been going to Bonaire multiple times per year since 2005. Everything you describe falls within the variability we have seen from trip to trip over the years. One winter, a manta was seen nearly every day for 2 wks at Sand Dollar and another, 2 huge snook resided under the...

    Getting to Bonaire

I just searched for AA fares from Boston to Bonaire (through Miami) and return. The price was about $1150, about $50 less than we are paying to fly via United (through Newark) this January with a February return. Also about twice the price of a United ticket in previous years.

Aruba Airlines Flying to Bonaire Starting November 30!

Good question; if yes, Bonaire will change dramatically. I heard a year ago that up to about 700 new rooms were planned for development. Some, like the Marriott, are already functioning. Others are still in the planning stages and may never be built, especially if they never achieve sufficient...

Aruba Airlines Flying to Bonaire Starting November 30!

Do you have to exit the plane in Curacao? Did that once and it was a big drag and our flight departed 1.5 hr late causing us to miss our flight home from Aruba. Of course, it was an Insel between-island flight.

    Getting to Bonaire

Do I understand you correctly? There are direct flights from EWR to BON. We are going in Jan, returning in Feb. Just checked March and there are flights then, too. But the prices are more than double those of last year.

    Car rental and amex coverage

Another thing you should know about the AMEX protection is that, to be valid for coverage of a truck break-in, the doors and windows must be closed and locked. Quite contrary to the local Bonaire recommendations. But, check this out for yourself.

    Solo diving on Bonaire

Interesting discussion about the philisophical intersection of diving, freedom, self-preservation, common sense and others making rules about our behavior imposing their "wisdom" on our behalf when we know not what we do. One reason this solo diver cert policy is wrong, IMHO, is that it is...

    Solo diving on Bonaire

I can confirm what the OP stated. One of the BIG dive ops on the island is starting to strongly discourage solo diving, even more than discourage in some instances. We'll see how this plays out because I think it will be bad for business. On the other hand, it also may be the future rearing its...

    Found: Mask@Den Laman/Sand Dollar

Mask found half buried in sand out in front of Den Laman on Bonaire. If you lost a mask on Bari Reef or Front Porch Reef, send me a description in the next two weeks. If yours, I will try to get it back to you.

Yes. And we all miss Jerry for his birding expertise, too.

BDA Gone from Sand Dollar/Den Laman

I wish to clarify that the facilities (dock, etc.) will be available for use by Seaside Ventures shareholders (and their guests); not all the condo owners are shareholders.
