    Diving in Amsterdam area

Frank, I live in Antwerp, give me a call when you pass and I'll try to point you to the best diving spots. (Antwerp is nearer to the best spots in Zeeland than Amsterdam B.T.W.) You can rent equipment or I can get you what you need (in exchange for copious amounts of beer off course)...

    Hurghada 101

Tamas, if you want to dive with a little 'liberty' you'll need to carefully select your diving centre. Most boats are purely guided reef dives, 30 meters maximum as imposed by the 'Hurghada Enviromental whatever agency'. Most wreck dives in the area are maximum 30 meters deep. Exceptions...

Running water through the BC.... Why?

If you like to disinfect your BC, you can use products as used in rebreathers, such as Buddyclean or Dräger EW80. These will not harm your BC, whereas bleach may be harmful. steven

    What did your DUI cost?

I paid 820£, which was, at that moment, 1180 USD for my stock CF200X, with 2 extra utility pockets on the legs. All in all a good deal. steven

    Will I Die With A 100lb Wing?

I used to dive an OMS bungeed 100 lbs wing. It was possible to use it with larger (15L) steel singles, but I did not like the fact that the inflator hose is on the side facing the diver (it trapped a bit of air). Some people claim that these wing have lots of drag. Personally I did not notice...

    recommendation on drysuit underwear

When I started diving I used a Bare 200 gram thinsulate. I was always cold once the water was colder than 55F. Then I bought a Weezle Extreme PLUS, and I've never been cold anymore, not even after diving for 60 minutes plus in 40F. You have to put some air in the suit though, so count on 2 to 4...

    Patent foramen ovale

I've had an ASD closed last year, after an 'undeserved' pain only hit. I did not even know I had the defect. Funny thing is that after the operation I suddenly noticed I did not hear any 'murmum' anymore when sleeping  The actual procedure (in my case) was a breeze. Got in on sunday...

    People who don't like BP/W?

As some other people here on the forum I use BP+W for double cylinder dives. For teaching and fun-dives I prefer a standard BC. For travel I switch back to a plastic BP & wing to save the maximum amount of weight. Use what you're comfortable with, but personally I find the BP+W hype a bit...

Jacket BC for warm water/travel NO BP/Wing

I use a Buddy Travelwing for travel, as it's VERY light yet VERY sturdy equipment. And it can take (lightweight & independent) doubles using the 'buddy-bands'. Before that I used a Scubapro Travtek (identical to the old Dive-rite Transpac 1). All in all I prefere the BUDDY for travel. Steven

    Seac Sub jackets

Wim, DIVER did some tests on SEAC SUB. I personally do not know the brand, but I tend to trust the DIVER tests. As far as magazines go, they really try to tell it as it is! Following links may be helpful: http://www.divernet.com/equipment/0902divertests.htm#seac...

How much BC lift do I require?

Wim, don't forget to take the set itself into account. If attach a heavy HP steel tank to the BCD, a camera and maybe a tank mounted light (style Metalsub), you want your set to float if you dunk it into the ocean. 12 kg is more than sufficient for diving in tropical conditions, but for...

How much BC lift do I require?

12 kg is sufficient for typical single tank diving when wearing a drysuit. If you're wearing a thick wetsuit (double 7mm) you might want a bit more lift (say 40 pounds). YMMV.

    Diving in Amsterdam area

Frank wrote: Frank, basically I'd say, no, the diving around Amsterdam isn't great, so don't bring your gear. However, if you're not afraid of cold water, current and limited viz, :errrr: you might do a couple of dives in The Oosterschelde, a marine estuary, about 80 miles south of...

    buoyancy of cf200 vs tls350

When I first used my CF200X I had to use less weight compared to an Otter Skin (membrane suit). Probably because the CF200 is much closer fitting compared to other membrane suits. The material is stretchy, so you still have excellent range of motion. I love the suit. I never experienced...

Halcyon DIR -VS- OMS? Help a new guy...

Well, I personally use an OMS 55# (non bungeed) wing which I picked up for 175$ at Northeastscubasupply. I like it. Most of my buddies dive the 100 lbs bungeed wing. Why?? Well: lots of reasons: a crowbar, a lumphammer, chisels. And then some even take an extra cylinder with pneumatic...
