It can be called a beacon as it does broadcast a signal requesting rescue, but as I understand it, the In Reach is more than just a PLB (Which only broadcasts an emergency signal continuously until the battery dies)
A PLB uses one set of satellites ( the International Cospas-Sarsat Programme...
Our ride out was quite rough as was the return ride, but the site itself was flat as it is tucked into a small cove near the shore.
But it is Hawaii. Many people forget how exposed we are out here and the water can get serious quickly.
Snorkeling with. the Mantas is why RogueWife decided to...
It might work in Japan, but it would be illegal to use it:
"In Japan, basic GPS Satellite Messengers such as SPOT and Garmin inReach can be used anywhere by anyone as a quasi-PLB. More powerful radio-wave emitting PLBs, however, are a) restricted to use on the ocean and b) require a basic Japan...
Any tool used improperly (following the wrong line on a dive table/using a computer that someone else dove deep earlier in the day) will give you a wrong answer....
Trust your computer, trust your tables but in both cases use them properly and with the needed exactness.
I believe those holding themselves forward as experts owe a certain degree of understanding the different techniques available to a diver.
The expert may disagree with a technique, but he should still be fully informed on other techniques and should honestly describe them.
SSI (acting as an...
Looks like Dan got that answer covered. But the other thing to consider is where are you diving. For instance I have never seen a boat here (HI) that has the receiver for the AIS, or at least that I have had described to me by a Captain or on the boats that I am deck hand....
This thread has...
Their wording is precise so they can make such claims:
"a man overboard distress message will be broadcast to all AIS equipped ships up to 34 miles away"
Up to. So in the absolute best conditions they were able to broadcast 34 miles.
And they actually say:
"The Nautilus LifeLine Marine...
I'm a big fan of Osprey.
The Shuttle series has padded soft sides and compression for protection and great wheels for rough roads
Osprey Shuttle 100L
And an amazing guarantee:
OSPREY'S ALL MIGHTY GUARANTEE
Osprey will repair any damage or defect for any reason free of charge – whether it...
This is SSI's description of Advanced Adventurer
To me this does not sound like an equivalent to PADI AOW but just a sampler to learn what you want to do next. SSI AOWD requires completing 4 specialty courses and 24 open water dives. The next step after AOWD is Master Diver which is adding...
My 30 plus year old Sub works as good today as when I got it. I have sent it in for service a few times.
Does it work to time a dive? Yes.
Is it going to track my NDL? No.
I use a computer for diving (Even the best computer is cheaper than a service for my Sub)
If you want pockets then you already have your answer when deciding between those two. One of my major deciding factors towards my Hydros Pro is that it doesn't have pockets (or any other extra material/padding etc to get wet).
Head to the local dive shop and find masks that fit.
I also like to add some floatation with a 3mm shorty if I am headed into an area that is not as protected or may have strong currents
Enjoy
Ideally I am looking to buy, from a stocking dealer, 4 kits for back ups. Must be new. Here is the Suunto description:
The Suunto Air Flow Restrictor is used with the Suunto Tank POD. You should remove the restrictor only for cleaning or changing scuba gear. The restrictor must be re-installed...
