ABWA - 2nd Annual Feb Dive.

I enjoyed diving ABWA even if I did have to invoke my "three strike" rule. It was good to finally get to meet Mwhites and dive with Mike Loyco again. I only got in one dive, 75', sailboat, bus, and the pipes. My three strikes went like this; As soon as I pulled into the ABWA parking lot- a...

    Wreck Penetration?

Yes Walter, that is exactly what I believe. I'm sure Mr Exley made a lot of mistakes and had quite a few close calls. Thanks to Sheck and many other early cave explorers we now have a good solid set of techniques and protocols that allow us to avoid and escape situations that can prove to be...

    Wreck Penetration?

Ken Brock was Sheck's first scuba instructor. As I suspect that you are aware, Mr Exley took the ball and ran with it, then passed his knowledge on to many others.

    Wreck Penetration?

My overhead instructor was trained by and dove with Sheck Exley. Sam Miller may not be very impressed by him but I sure as hell am.

    Wreck Penetration?

Man ain't that the truth! One of the people on this board that I have the highest respect for is TSandM. She made mention in another thread of a "benign" overhead environment. I'll take her word for it that there are some out there. But...for the most part- an overhead is probably the most...

    Leaving plate attached to doubles?

The lp inflator hose is bound to the corrogated hose by one or two pieces of mtb innertube segments. The inflator/hose assembly is run through a loop of bungee attatched to the tri-glide of the left chest d-ring. The bungee loop should be big enough for you to pass the inflator through it.

    Leaving plate attached to doubles?

I dove with Flightlead a week or so ago and he turned me on to a little set of light weight aluminum hand trucks from Home Depot. The upright handles either fold or telescope (I can't remember), but they are perfect for hauling and moving around a set of doubles. $45 or $50 bucks is what he paid...

    Leaving plate attached to doubles?

I take the plate and wing off my doubles before I load 'em into my truck. zero chance of getting a "pinch flat" in the bladder of my wing if I disassemble my rig before moving it around or transporting it..

Why waist buckle to the right side?

There is no right side d-ring on the waist strap. If the buckle was centered in the front it would be very easy for the crotch strap loop to slip under the buckles release lever. Any foreward pressure on the crotch strap would pop open the buckle.

    An Open Letter of thanks

In mid December I placed an online order with DSS. I ordered a wing for my new doubles. Within about 2 hours of placing the order I get a phone call from Tobin. He thanked me for my order and then asked me a few questions about my equipment, exposure protection, trim, weight placement, and other...

How to become a good dive buddy?

I believe that it all starts with the divers attitude, training, common sense, and the desire to improve. Here's my mindset and duty if I'm your teammate or buddy; I have your reserve gas supply so I always have to be aware of where you are, what you are doing, and be prepared to get to you...

    OW SPG clipping?

Most excellent! I was hoping you'd get it back in time for Pelham. See you there. Brent

    OW SPG clipping?

It was the same way with me. I think there is some sort of invisible force field around the left hip d-ring that defies one from clipping off the spg for the first 20 or 30 attempts. ;) It'll go away with a little practice, I promise you.

    More wing confusion

A 45lb wing is way too big for a single tank. Here's what works for me; Fresh water- 30lb wing, HP119 steel tank, 1.5mm shorty, AL plate, I need no additional weight. Fresh water- 30lb wing, HP119 steel tank, 5mm full suit, AL plate, I need 4lbs on the belt. Fresh water- 30lb wing, HP119...
