    bungee cord size?

I got a 50' roll of 1/8 and have found it useful for all kinds of things. I use it to attach my light and camera to my BC. Hold my leg zippers down on my wetsuit. Attach a home-made diffuser to my camera's focus light...etc...

    Housing or Bomb?

I also wrapped my housing in bubble wrap and took it in my carry-on the one time i've travelled with it. It's an ikelite and they didn't even take a look at it.

Hows this for a starter kit?

They'r basically the same. I like my back inflate BC because it leaves my whole front area pretty unobstructed. Overall though the differences are minimal. You'll get used to either kind. I always have a pistol style light and my camera both clipped to the front of my BC so it's crowded...

    Monterey nudis

Heh i didn't know they were rare either. They were all over at Carmel Meadows. Overall though the dive site was kinda a pain ;) Big long walk down a starcase and then over sand with full gear wore us out. Pretty shallow too. This little critter was hanging on for dear life in the swell...

    Monterey nudis

Thanks for the compliments. I think those pics are made more by the subjects than anything i did. They'r all with the Fuji F810 and ikelite housing. I just got ULCS hardware to attach a flashlight to use as a focus-assist light but that's the only thing attached to my camera. All those pics...

    Monterey nudis

Just figured i'd post a few of the cool nudis i saw last weekend at various sites in Monterey. First time i've seen any of these guys before; Spanish Shawl Thick-horned Aeolid Pugnacious Aeolid Chris

    New to Monterey

Wow it just took a little goading and then the posts flood in ;) I figure i'm gonna go diving this weekend one way or another. If any of you guys want to meet up for a dive Saturday or/and Sunday I'd be totally there. Otherwise i'll try to hop on a boat. My gear would never forgive me if i...

    New to Monterey

Hey fellow Californians. This past weekend i moved down to Monterey from way up north in Humboldt County. I'm excited to get wet in the calmer waters down here in the bay and do some regular diving. Anyway i would love to meet some of you folks down here for some dives since my buddy/brother...

    camera woes Part 2

Macro is something like 3 inches away. Very close and has great detail. chrissyt.smugmug.com has pictures (underwater and not) all taken with the F810. My underwater pics are under the Hawaii folder. I'm a newby so don't blame the camera for pic quality as it was all about MY skills ;)...

    camera woes Part 2

Get a Fuji F810 and ikelite housing. Under $1000 for camera, housing, batteries, memory cards etc... Takes SHARP pics. Check out www.digitaldiver.net for lots of F810 users.

    Flood Insurace

I got DEPP. As far as i can tell you are deciding between DEPP and DAN. Pro of DAN: They send you a check instead of buying your same camera. So you could upgrade if your camera is old. Pro of DEPP: If i remember they made alot more sense financially if you have less equipment. (i have...

    Chosing my first camera

Get a Fuji F810 and Ikelite housing for it. Great camera with lots of underwater strengths. In your price range too (on the upper end maybe) EDIT: Spelling

The Ongoing "Which Camera for a Newbie?" Question

I love my new Fuji F810 and my very new Ikelite housing for it. I have yet to take it underwater but am leaving tomorrow for 2 weeks on Kona!!!!!!! So i'll have lots more experience in two weeks. I have been very happy with it above-water. It's small and takes very sharp pics...

    Air fills near Kealakekua Bay?

I'm going to be spending 2 weeks in Kona at the end of May and (of course) diving as much as possible. We are staying south of Kailua very near Kealakekua Bay and I was wondering if anyone knows of places to rent tanks/get fills in this area. Since I'm going to be renting 2 tanks for 12 days...

    Sony Or Canon

Yeah there was photoshop involved but my point was just that digi point and shoots are more than capable of taking phenomenal underwater pictures. dSLR's are (i'm sure) very cool but also very expensive (for my budget). P&S's are small and cheaper housings are available for many brands.

Is this a good camera for a beginner?

If you're trying to get a camera and housing for under $500 i think i'd get an older digi-cam and housing. Something like an older canon A-series (maybe A75) can be had for well under 300 bucks. and the housing for under 200 here: http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=3967131 I'm...

Is this a good camera for a beginner?

Heya, I'm just gearing myself towards getting into underwater photography and looked at the very same camera you'r looking at I decided that i'd rather save up a little more money and get a point and shoot digital and housing. After MUCH checking out cameras i've mostly decided on the...

    Wetsuit gloves

I decided to go with a pair of orange 5mm gloves. Nice and bright for those low vis moments ;) I may be getting a camera and housing for some underwater photography attempts. Was thinking gloves like http://tinyurl.com/6k44y might be good for cameras and other things that require some manual...

    Triple L jumpsuit reviews

I dive the 7mm triple-l jumpsuit with a hooded vest in northern california (~50 degree water) and it works like a champ. I had the leg zippers slide up during my first few dives that really drained my heat but i fixeed that with 2 little loops of bungee through the zipper and looped over my...
