Some people use gloves that are 5mm or even 3mm. If your core is warm your extremeties will tend to stay warm. That said I've been diving a 7mm wetsuit for all my dives in Monterey but i'm a generally pretty warm guy. Even though i'm pretty warm i find once it dips into the high 40's i really...
I dunno i got the Inon UWL 105 wide angle for $259. And i got 2 Inon UCL 165 for $270 (2x$135). If you're talking about the dome lenses then those are more expensive but with the regular wide angle the prices are comparable (since lots of people end up with 2 macro lenses).
I just got my...
You are probably gonna get blurriness more from using a shutterspeed that's too slow than anything else. For macro i generally use something like 1/125. It's pretty hard to get bluring on that speed unless you try.
As for the glove thing i'm a cold water diver and i use some 5mm(i think)...
On my first trip with my camera i took the oring out after every dive and greased it up. Since then i've found that (to some degree) benign neglect is better for your oring. Constantly pulling the oring out and lubing it will stretch the oring even if you are careful...and the fact of the...
Unfortunately i'll be out of town but you guys have fun. Besides Lobos i'd say N. Monastery if conditions are good. I don't like south side as much because you have to swim pretty far out to find any depth over 30'. Coral street can also be awesome if conditions are good. I've found the...
I have preservationstation packs and they recharge fine for me. I just stick them in my oven on the lowest setting for ~5 minutes. Just keep an eye on them. Not difficult.
The SP-350, Canon A620, and Fuji E900 seem like the most popular right now. I'd choose the E900 but people vary. There are tons of threads about these cameras if you do a search.

I hear what you're saying Catherine. From reading this thread i can tell you i'd rather dive with you than the DIR crowd. Even if we'd be wringing our hands and crying on each others shoulders because we're not as cool as the Men in Black.
Honestly every thread that turns into this DIR...
I think the questions is what is overkill. I've never owned a DS125 strobe but wouldn't it be considered overkill for a p&s and adequate for a DSLR? The DS200 definitely would be enough strobe but i think the DS125 would be also in a smaller, lighter, cheaper package.
DISCLAIMER: I have...
If you want to get too much strobe for your camera i'd consider the DS125 instead of the DS200. The 125 is a powerful, big (physically) strobe with an angle of coverage wide enough for if you ever want to upgrade to a DSLR. The DS200 is even bigger (and over 1lb heavier) and more powerful, but...
I don't argue that used deals get snatched up pretty quick. Especially the good ones. Takes patience/luck...i caved and payed ~$350 for my strobe/controller used. But lots of demand for the strobes is a good sign for the overall quality if you ask me ;)
As for covering the internal...
Sorry but that's wrong. I block my internal flash and the manual controller works fine. It also gives you control of the strobe right by your hands instead of on the back of the strobe.
Chris
I would disagree with the above post discounting the DS50 strobe. I don't know much about the SL960D but looking at the picture i can tell you for diving where i do (sometimes murky/stirred up conditions) the included arm would not be nearly long enough for anything except macro. I use...
