    GUE position on lights

I think you have answered your own question. It's very simple. You know what your burn time is and you know what your dive plan is. If you can cover it with a non canister light then there isn't a problem. If the dive time requires more burn time than what is available then the canister should...

    Perdex/petrel w/ a suunto backup? Pointless?

I run this exact set up. Perdix as primary and Viper in Gauge with either wetnotes or ratio as back up. I used to lock out my Suunto all the time...

My fundies was $90 for the course reg and $500 dollars for the course. 4 days instruction. That doesn't include fills and boat costs etc.

    Cost of GUE fundies

Ok I'm going to weight both. My wife's jet fins are new so I wonder if they are heavier. Or maybe they changed the design. I'll do some investigating.

    Cost of GUE fundies

I dive twin AL80s in the Middle East and Steel 12s in UK and have the same faith both. I use a Halcyon soft pouch with 4lbs in the bottom in warm water and a 2kg tail weight in cold. Was just wondering as the OMS I have look exactly the same as my wife's jet fins. Almost like they came from...

ADV Nitrox and Deco Proc or Helitrox

Make sure you have the basics down. If you instructor is worth his salt then you'll be just doing fundamental skills until they are right Twinset / Shutdowns / no mask etc Otherwise you might not get a card at the end. You're not in Kansas anymore :)

ADV Nitrox and Deco Proc or Helitrox

I did DP and Helitrox together. Just an extra theory module and two dives with helium. No sweat really. Just a bit of added expense.

    Cost of GUE fundies

I use slipstreams and I always considered them a heavy fin. What would you suggest as currently I have to run a tail weight with doubles.

BackMounted Doubles and mixed gas - is that technical?

I think personal preference can sometimes lead to doing things the easiest way which isn't always the best. I was always thought to be a 'thinking diver'which means weigh up the pros and cons and most importantly UNDERSTAND the cons they make the best choices for you. A lot of people focus on...

BackMounted Doubles and mixed gas - is that technical?

Honestly independents with different gases? One of which isn't breathable at the depth planned. To me you sound like you are stumbling into tech which little to no idea of what you are doing? To be honest staying within your NDL isn't what you need to be doing. IMO You are better off at this...

    Perdix AI and VPM Mode

I think at least some of the money goes to the people who developed it. Maybe ask shearwater but I don't think it's a profit thing for them I think it's for a licence for the algorithm.

Scuba Tech Tips w/ Alec Peirce on YouTube

I agree with Sam. I started watching when I first started scuba 2 years ago and his videos are were great at explaining little things. His positive attitude is great and he is only trying to help make people's diving safer or easier. I'm a GUE trained tech diver so obviously not everything he...

Scuba Tech Tips w/ Alec Peirce on YouTube

Alec is great but he openly admits himself that he is not a technical diver and only speaks about recreational diving. I think he is a great resource and he takes time and effort to present his information well. Also he doesn't force it down anyone's throat he simply says that this is what he...

Using a computer alongside pragmatic deco plans

I kinda feel the same. I did my fundamentals and ran my petrel in BT mode for a while. But now I kinda feel that having such a powerful tool on your wrist and not using it is kind of a waste. I mean if I have a real emergency I want to know my exact profile to get out when perhaps my mind is too...

Please, define your perfect Sidemount gear

Depends what you want to use it for really. Certainly cold water/warm water. Caves or Open Water. Or are you looking for something to do all?
