    Questions from "those considering"

I agree with those that recommend the Discover Scuba. In my area, the local rec. Dept offers them, and contracts thru the LDS. My LDS actually offers them for free to the Rec Dept, so our money is all going back to the town for programs. See if your area has similar. I have sneezed, hi cupped...

WE NEED TO ACT NOW! Florida's goliath grouper still need our help.

I may be naive, but I have a couple of questions regarding this subject. Is it true that the GG is overabundant in some areas, but in others are almost non-existant? If that is the case, rather than hunting them down, wouldn't it be prudent to relocate some from areas of overabundance to those...

    Whats the best modern Western?

Personally, I'd love to see Sam Eliot and Tom Selleck do more Westerns. They were good together in The Louis L'Amour adaptations like the Sacketts and Shadow Riders, but want to see them on the big screen and not TV movies. My favorite modern big screen Westerns are Unforgiven, Dances With...

    Wetsuit in low 30*F water

It really depends on the person. I regularly dive in 34-36 degree water in just a 7mm suit and do multiple dives a day. However, I live up north in Vermont, and go hunting in the winter in a sweatshirt ( with a henley underneath) and wool pants when it's in the 20's and 30's, so I have thicker...

Best way to prepare for PADI AOW?

Just dive, get comfortable in the water, and work on your skills. AOW is just expanding on them, so getting the basic skills down to second nature will enable you to expand upon them easier. IMO, comfort in the water is by far the most important, otherwise your fear, however small it is, hinders...

    Hockey Talk 2007- 2008 Season

I think losing Comrie and Preising will hurt Ott, but after signing Emery, there's no doubt who's team it is, so I don't think there will be a goaltending controversy in Sens land. For whatever reason, the Sens have always had the Habs number, right down to the first time they played ( fall...

    Socks under boots.

My LDS sells a thin neoprene sock that Deep See makes. Here's a link. http://www.deepseeinc.com/products/neo_dive_socks.html I know a few divers who need half size boots ( 8 1/2 or 9 1/2 ) that use them to help their boots fit. They seem to like them. Good luck, C-Dawg

    Hockey Talk 2007- 2008 Season

Sad thing is, I liked Souray, but he wasn't an All Star as the media said he was. He was a defenseman who was weak defensively and needed to be paired with a strong defensive D-man who could cover his liabilities. He had 2 things going for him, he had a booming, accurate slapshot, and he was a...

    Hockey Talk 2007- 2008 Season

Souray was a defensive liability and nowhere near as good as Markov or Kommy. He made more highlight reels for having forwards deek him out of his socks than he did for scoring goals. With Souray acting like a human pylon, and Abby giving up rebounds like they're free tickets to the circus last...

    Hockey Talk 2007- 2008 Season

I'm happy with what the HABS have done this offseason, got rid of dead weight ( Souray, Niminaa, Samsonov, Bonk, Johnson, Abby), brought in some veteran leadership that is defensively responsible ( Hamerlik, Smolinski), and left room for the kids that just won the Calder Cup. Should be a great...

    Dacor 960

I loved my old Pacer XL also, but retired it about 2 years ago when I couldn't get parts locally. Do a search here on SB for the thread regarding the Mares "deal" to those who got screwed for buying a Dacor reg with lifetime service. Their deal was a joke. Someone asked me in the thread what I...

    It's NHL Playoff Time

That's not entirely true....New England, Michigan, Minnesota and other northern states are very much hockey hotbeds, and there are a lot of Northerners and Canadians in Florida that follow, but sadly not to the extent of the other 3 major sports. Personally, I can't see the interest in the NBA (...

    It's NHL Playoff Time

Not sure if the Ducks have the speed or firepower to keep up with the Sens...but the Ducks definitely have the edge in goal. This should be an interesting Final....Go Sens! C-Dawg

VENICE BEACH - Today is the day! 5/19/07

LOL....CoolTech....I had to laugh reading that. I did 2hrs 9 min on an AL80 (came out with 600psi) and wore only a T shirt and a pair of swim trunks and never got cold. But, I'm sure after I move to FLA in a few years, my blood will thin and I'll be a WWW too. ( no offense ;) ) Nice haul for...

First liveaboard - where to go?

What about trying the Bahamas? Blackbeard's has sloops, the Cat Ppalu and the Aquacat, so you have options on price and area. I did the Cat Ppalu a couple of years ago which took us thru the Exumas, and it was awesome diving for an affordable price. Check out my pics from the trip. C-Dawg
