    Stuart Coves night dives

Well I just got back from a week with Stuart Cove and I did the night dive on the Willaurie wreck which was really nice and worth doing. Funny thing is, as mentioned by DrBill, this was the only dive on which we didn't spot any sharks.

My First Deep Dive (Very Minor Mishap)

Did you get the opportunity to see that blood looks green at depth or did you have lights?

Too heavy after a certain depth ?

Maybe not that hard to imagine. I've seen people diving with two piece suits 7 + 7, so lets say an average of 10mm over 2 m2 of body area. That's 20kg of water displacement. Let's just suppose that the suit is well used and the neoprene is soft and they go deep enough for the 10mm to become 4mm...

    Split Fins and Rescue Course

If they're adequate or not you'll soon find out on the course. I used to dive with a pair of Dacor hinging fins (Panthers) that were extremely efficient at low speed because of the way they would hinge and push the water directly backwards. I probably had about 100 dives on them and I thought...

    Stuart Coves night dives

Bump. We're heading to Nassau at the end of February so I'm curious to hear any comments about night diving there.

Special Training to do Swim Throughs?

The training would basically cover the equipment required, gas & lights redundancy, line running, lost line procedure (how to find it in zero-vis with your mask off - simulating a silt-out with lost mask). Most LDS offer a wreck penetration course. The quality (and the stress level) will vary...

Special Training to do Swim Throughs?

I've had an o-ring blow at 22m and it actually takes quite a long time to empty the tank provided the tank is more than half full. Certainly enough to get out of a typical Caribbean swim-through or cavern. If I had less than half a tank of air I wouldn't be starting any kind of penetration...

    Critique this dive...

With respect to the question, NONE. Which is interesting because I consider myself a very conservative diver compared to many that I know. And that's a lot because I live in one of the biggest cities in the world and over the last 12 years I have regularly dived with several large LDS each of...

    Critique this dive...

Not really relevant as they're not in the caves: "All caves have been patrolled by tec divers yesterday with no results." From your own link.

    Critique this dive...

Well I won't point any fingers because I've also followed guides into some pretty tight spots even to the extent of having to unequip and push the BC and the cylinder through first or having to come out on a compass bearing after everything silted up (small group of divers penetrated cavern with...

Signs you have too much scuba gear.

Only ONE special section? With 3 divers in the family and diving a wide range of temperatures and conditions I had to construct a large storage area in the back garden and I still have several large cupboards in the house fully occupied. We could easily fully equip a few other divers if...

Any downside to extending the safety stop?

Interesting that everyone focused on the physiological aspects. I agree that's the main issue on a daytime dive but most places where I go night diving the recommendation is to minimize the stop or eliminate it altogether and if you have to do a stop it's done with lights out to not attract sea...

    DCS hit 4 days later

I found an interesting statement on the London Diving Chamber site where they refer to an interval of a "week": DCI Denial, decompression sickness / DCS / decompression illness / DCI / diving and the bends, London Recompression & Hyperbaric facilities - The London Diving Chamber DCI Denial...

    DCS hit 4 days later

Very interesting reading this thread as something similar just happened to me and I had completely dismissed any relation with my dives. I was on holiday diving regularly up to Thursday Jan 2, last 2 dives in 30m range with Nitrox. No symptoms, pains or bruises on the last day or the 2 following...

How indepth is PADI equipment specialist?

It most certainly depends on the shop/instructor. The course I did a few years back included stripping down, cleaning, rebuilding and adjusting tank valves and various types of regulators and you were welcome to bring your own regulator to learn how to work on it.

    Dual citizenship?

This post has been split from another thread as it was just too wildly off topic to leave it. I would remind members that political discussions belong in the Pub, so please stick to answering the question at the risk of the thread being otherwise relocated.
