This sounds like a job for... someone else. What do you think?

I don't see why this has to be considered an official club activity. Surely divers that are only loosely "affilated" can also dive when and where they want. It should be sufficient to comment in your newsletter or on your Facebook page the loss of the keg. If some "members" then want to get...

    Suunto Dive Manager 1.6 Wanted

Very strange, the proxy I use (with McAfee protection) allowed download of 4 out of the 5 files on this page but refused to allow download of Suunto Dive Manager 3.1.0 (Full Setup / Update) indicating it as malicious. Currently I use Version 1.4 (1.40.0.3141) under Windows 7 64bits but it does...

Readers Poll: Boat is sinking. Don SCUBA or Life Vest?

This actually happened to some friends of mine. Recife, Sep 3, 2010. Dive boat Van Gogh, 5 miles off NE coast of Brazil. Rough weather, wooden boat construction. The hull under the head ripped out and the boat DISAPPEARED IN 90 SECONDS. 14 people on board, all experienced divers or crew members...

    Tricks for getting 7MM OFF???!!!

Plastic bags or shampoo as a lubricant. I normally use plastic bags to get my 7mm off my feet. Foot in the bag. Tuck the bag under the suit around the ankle and then roll the suit off. It's like magic.

    Number of dives metric

Hours UW is probably a much less reliable metric than # dives. I have quite a few short dives on deep wrecks (<30mins BT), many of which were made in difficult sea conditions and many very long (>60mins BT) dives on fairly shallow calm tropical reefs. There is absolutely no way that one 60 min...

    Aggressive Remora ?

The explanation I received from a marine biologist about the original incident at the start of the thread is that probably the sucker region on the fish was damaged. As the remora would not be able to stick on to a host it would be deprived of it's usual food source (left-overs from the host...

setting to nitrox to reduce over conservatism on dive computers

I've come across several DMs at high intensity dive locations who do some fine tuning of their DCs by upping the % while diving air. But this is something quite different from the average diver. These guys are diving known and proven site profiles, 5 or 6 times per day every day for years. They...

Are you too old to dive?

Well I remember when I was running a shore end survey in Venezuela in 1975 to select a landing point for a transatlantic cable and I'd contracted this local diving company. Well the guy driving the boat was about 84 and wizened and there was a young, well-built diver doing the initial more...

    Diving with Polar heartrate monitor

Some of the Polar models are rated water resistant to 30m which really only means that they're rated for swimming. It's mentioned it will be worn inside the dry-suit - so unless you have transparent panels in your dry-suit I assume that means that you can't see it during the dive and it's only...

    G12 question

Yes, I've had this. As mentioned it's the "set" button sticking and not fully retracting. It's the button that has the least travel to operate. I resolved it by opening the case, pressing the button and inserting some silicone grease on the shaft and then operating repeatedly until it became...

Will I look stupid with a DAN safety sausage?

You go out to sea in a boat with only ONE motor?

Hitler doesn't need an AOW card.

Filming started in 1937 but the premiere was Oct 15, 1940 and editing was going on right up to the end. The Holocaust started in 1933. Check some of the dates here: Holocaust Facts - 33 Things You Should Know

Hitler doesn't need an AOW card.

It's a joke right. Get over it. We've gone just too far with the touchy-feely & political correctness and having to police everything we say. So what about Chaplain's "The Great Dictator"? That was made at the time and still considered funny.

Will I look stupid with a DAN safety sausage?

How big is it? I looked at the DAN site and only found the small/normal 6ft ones. I didn't know that DAN sells a big one. I've been on some boats where they distribute decent size ones of 10 - 12ft long and 10 inch diameter for emergencies.

I found the diving mask light can be counted on one's fingers in the world

Mine sits in my box of tools for doing odd jobs around the house. I used it once for diving and never again. It attracted every tiny swimming critter in the water and after about 10 minutes I had a hood full of them and a really hard job to see more than a few inches. A really nauseating experience.

    First Dive with Suunto Vyper

I'm not a Mac user myself but I have a lot of colleagues who run a Windows emulator on their machines and say they have no problems at all. I see some good reviews out there on free emulators. Is your interface serial (via USB/serial adapter or Suunto direct USB? The only issue may be with the...

    First Dive with Suunto Vyper

Strange because the Vyper manual states: By using the DM4, you are able to enter setup options such as: • input a personal, 30-character field into the Suunto instrument. reset the Scuba History's maximum depth to zero • manually add comments, multimedia and other personal...

    First Dive with Suunto Vyper

I really doubt that you're going to notice that on the standard Vyper going from 20 secs to 10 secs. Compared to the real time processing going on during the dive the extra storage cycles will be negligible. He didn't mention if it was a Vyper 2 that would allow a 1 sec log but then the prime...

    Viper Battery Charging

Is your battery pack Ni based or Li based? Basically, Nickel-metal batteries (NiCad/NiMH), when over-discharged, can grow little metal whiskers or "dendrites" between the internal plates, shorting the cell out and no amount of normal charge currents bring them back. Pulsing a high current...
