    Blue Heron Bridge Trolls III

Sorry, but I don’t know anything about lodging near the BHB. You could contact Pura Vida Diving and/or ForceE Scuba to inquire about tanks and weights. I don’t believe that they offer flag & float rentals, but it couldn’t hurt to ask. Drift dives in the ocean require a more substantial...

"The Bermuda Triangle: Into Cursed Waters"

Mike Barnette gave a brief interview on NBC’s national news broadcast last night. He and Jimmy Gadomsky are both in a large photograph in an article about the Challenger discovery in today’s NY Times.

Marine forecast suggests that the weekend will be okay for boaters, but having seen the ocean getting churned up for most of the past week leads me to anticipate that visibility will be poor. This might not be of major concern for bug hunters who know the lay of the land well, but does not bode...

When using auto focus here’s a technique that may help you when your camera has trouble locking on to a translucent subject. Aim you camera at something else that is the same distance from you as the object that you’re camera is unable to gain focus on. When that other object is in focus, lock...

    Supporting and Sponsoring Member Issues

I know that Pete is dealing with an extremely demanding family issue, so am not in any great hurry to get my red banner restored. My wife is in a similar situation to his sister’s, and fully understand his delay in processing my payment, (I sent a check on Sept. 17th, and it has yet to clear at...

    Pelagic expedition setup

For free diving during my film shooting days I would use either a Nikonos body with a UW Nikkor 15mm lens or a housed Nikon SLR with 15mm, 18mm, and 20mm lenses. All rectilinear. You had to be cautious when entering the water from any great hight while using the Nikonos as it was easy to...

Downsides of being cheap, sharing examples

Whenever I think of being cheap about anything related to diving it brings to mind one of The Far Side by Gary Larson cartoons; “Don’s Discount Shark Cages.” I won’t post a copy of it here as I’d violate his ©, but if you’re not familiar with it a quick internet search should yield an apropos...

First King of England to be a Certified Diver?

In 2015, Claire Tuggle swam the 400 Meter Freestyle in 4:47.41. She had yet to turn 11 years of age. In 2015, David Radcliff swam the 400 Meter Freestyle in 5:45.21. He was over 80 years old at the time. In 2016, Grahm Johnston swam the 400 Meter Freestyle in 6:38.87, so was just shy of...

First King of England to be a Certified Diver?

Logic would lead one to believe that of course King Charles III is the first King of England to be a certified diver. The last King of England, George IV, died in 1952. The LA County instructor training program, (which I believe was the first organization to train civilian SCUBA divers and issue...

Here are my basic home screens for OC Tec and CCR. I don't like the screens to get too cluttered so will often choose to view secondary and tertiary displays all with the simple press of one little button.

    Blue Heron Bridge Trolls III

Made my way the the bridge in plenty of time for yesterday’s 3:24 PM high tide. Aside from one good old friend of mine, there were very few divers, fishermen, or other folks at the park. Got in the water around 2:00 and enjoyed a 2 1/2 hour dive. Visibility was about 20’ with a fair amount of...

Thank you sir. I'll see if I can't find out which instructor made the video, and possibly pay a visit to the same area if it is served by any of the local commercial operations. I stopped looking at FB a few years ago and don't particularly care to return to the site, so may have to rely on...

    Blue Heron Bridge Trolls III

To embellish on @Scuba-Jenny’s response, the image you are referring to shows a male jawfish incubating a clutch of eggs in his mouth in a manner known as mouth brooding. After the eggs are laid and fertilized, the male will hold them in his mouth until the fry hatch.

I’ve been hoping to see and photograph Smalltooth Sawfish, Pristis pectinata for many years now had have yet to succeed. This is supposedly the right time of year to find them off the coast of West Palm Beach county. Does anyone on theses forums know of any confirmed sightings there this season?
