what sucks is that I didn't do anything to injure them, they did it all on their own.
Though I did screw up my foot again friday evening. I was carrying a heavy box into the house when I felt it pop. With any luck thursday the doc will have some magic to apply...
there are quite a few in the area. One not far outside the park is J Michaels J Michael's "The Original" - Home, fresh oysters on the half shell & other ways as well as a variety of other fresh seafood. A bit longer drive there is -or was, at least- a chinese buffet in panama city that we often...
I don't really see any reason to go to the trouble of entering at the point. It's a pretty good distance from the point to the bay end of the jetty rocks & there's nothing but sand in between.
At the point is a channel, boats cut around it right off the sand. Somewhere between the point & the...
If you just want to do the dive from the bay end out, you'd be far better off to go in the kiddie pool & just go north to the end of the rocks & around the end. I've done the reverse at the end of a dive.
oh that pier. I've launched from there many times to go boat diving. that's a lot farther than I want to swim scuba gear, not to mention the boat traffic.
By the time you get to the bay end of the jetty rocks, the water is real shallow & once you get away from the rocks it's just sand.
I know some do the beach side entry/exit, but I don't personally know anyone who's told me they've done it. the common method is to both enter & exit through the kiddie pool.
I have no idea where the fishing pier is. Did they put one in? last time I was at St Andrews was new years day 2012...
I like night dives, but I like them better when it's nice & warm ;)
I haven't been in the water in quite a while so I plan on taking it easy getting started up again this year. need to get back in the feel of things.
people from my old club do a night dive there maybe once a year, usually around july or august. I never made one.
the park is actually closed then, what you have to do is get in early & just stay. you can get out but unless you have the gate code you can't get back in.
sharks don't bother me...
that's about 90 minutes from me. I haven't dove there or even been there yet. I'm told it's a nice dive, a bunch of local divers go there fairly regularly.
right now the local news reports the water temps at the beach at 60 or so, sometimes in the 50's. They recently report 60 but that was 12...
oh yeah, the kiddie pool is chock full of sting rays, from tiny to medium sized. If you snorkel out in the deeper areas towards the rocks they can be found all over the place.
I've only dove Destin jetties a few times. It's nice. Parking severely limited & a long walk through to really soft sand.
But St Andrews is far more accessible. Decent sized parking lot and at that time of year you should be able to park close to the pavillion. Fairly short walk to the kiddie...
I am, but I work M-F so mid week isn't really an option. A saturday in late march might be possible. It's about a 3 hr drive from here, doable for a day trip.
