    Puerto Vallarta dive op recommendations

Hi Stuart: I second all the above. With that said, in 2006 I dove one afternoon with: Pacific SCUBA They are on the coastal 2-lane on the east side roughly 1/2 mile south of the Marina -- where we boarded the boat. Nothing fancy, but they got us out and back to the Los Arcos dive site (which...

    Communications Issues with Blue Angel?

    NOOOOO!!!! Say it ain't so.

    VRBO questions

If it's just the two of you and you're there for only a week (especially for the first time), my advice would be to book a package at one of the resorts like Buddy Dive. I doubt you'd be saving any $$$ by going the VRBO route for just a week. If you had more people or were there for a longer...

    Rescue Diver True Stories

I've used my Rescue Training twice: 1) Three of us descended to sand bottom at 60' on a Bahama wreck. 4th diver levels off to join us and his weight belt falls right off. He starts to slowly ascend not realizing what's happening. I grab him right away and hold him until I get someone else's...

Juliet trip report from repositioning cruise.

My first Juliet cruise was 5 years ago; Bimini trip out of Miami in June. As luck would have it, there was an early season hurricane bearing down on the NW Bahamas. Capt. John kept an eye on its progress, got out the charts and motored us straight over to Nassau to get ahead of, and ultimately...

    McAfee is blocking content.

A week ago I got a Trojan Horse Alert from my Avast Virus software when I loaded the Main Forum page. Bailed out immediately with no consequences, but it dissuaded me from trying again until a few days later. No problems or alerts logging in today.

    Hate to complain, but...

It just took me 20 secs to refresh this page. I use IE and have Avast Virus Software. The "old" format used to reload on my machine in about 5 secs -- max. If I had to guess, there are more associated sites (facebook, etc.) and ads attached to this new format. Avast (or any real-time virus...

Question about strong currents around Saba & St. Kitts

I was on that itinerary 4 years ago. The diving around Saba was amazing and not to be missed. I could have stayed at Diamond Rock all week! I got certified with my son 10 years ago when he turned 14 and we dove all over the Caribbean together after that. That was one lucky kid -- and an even...

trip report Turks and Caicos Explorer 2, with photos

Erwin: Thanks for the slide show. The underwater visibility looked to be infinite. Loved the Green Moray peeking out from the shadows. Terrific composition. I've been pondering a trip to Salt Cay late Fall. You've renewed my enthusiasm for T&C.

    Very shallow snorkeling in Belize

Mexico Rocks -- on Ambergris Cay is a clean, sand bottom, shallow site (3-4' depth). It is a 30-40minute boat ride north from San Pedro (town). My non-diver wife and I went there with Chuck and Robbie's last November and had the entire area pretty much to ourselves. It's not heavily snorkled...

Any opinions on the following Dive Ops?

I dove with Chuck and Robbie's twice (10 dives in November, 2010 and 10 in March, 2011). I'd use them again in a heartbeat. They are fun, professional, straight-up folks who cater to every level of diver. Everyone gets to dive their computer. They clean and store as much gear as you care to...

    Good Eats on AC

Wow - I am SO relieved to see these posts. My wife and I also felt like we were worked over at Waraguma as well. Quoted an initial price, bill came with a higher one AND they added tax to that -- after I gave the server my cash! It's too bad because the food was good and abundant. Sad for them...

    Where to buy fresh seafood

You might also try Pescaderia San Carlos -- approximately out on Av 50/55, north of Calle 3 on the east side of the street. It's a seafood market in front with an outdoor restaurant in back. Once you are within sight of it, you can't miss it. Don't know if they carry lobster, but the fish with...

What I learned in my first 9 months of diving

That is outstanding. Thanks for sharing. It took me 5 years and 200 dives to achieve that level of awareness. I think I was trying SO hard trying NOT to make a mistake that I never allowed myself the luxury of messing up a little bit and REALLY learning from experience. As soon as I realized...

    Blue Angel Concerns

As for costs comparisons, it's a little apples/oranges but here goes. Airfare aside, here's the deal: VB: $885 - Superior room for 2, with "American" breakfast included: eggs, potatoes, toast, juice, coffee. Anything else off the menu (pancakes, etc.) you pay. This also included 5 days, 2...

    Blue Angel Concerns

OK, I'll chime in. I'm a big BA fan (for the past 5 years) and was unable to get a room there 3 weeks ago. We'd already booked air, so we tried Villablanca with Scuba Mau for the first time. Last few posts pretty much nailed it. The Superior rooms are 1/2 again larger than BA and are quieter...

    Accurate Cozumel weather forecasts?

Now THAT (Windfinder) is a great website. Thanks for the link. I've been using Welcome to Weather Underground : Weather Underground but it's been getting a bit too cluttered with ads these days -- although it's been generally accurate.

Any info about the Juliet liveaboard - Miami/Bahamas Itinerary?

The reason you won't find many reviews (IMO) is because the boat is pretty much full all year round due to its popularity and returning guests (myself included). If you're looking for luxury, this ain't it, but the diving/food/crew/vessel are rock solid and reasonably priced. They only had a few...

    Living Vicariously

Tunaman! This is magazine quality stuff. I've been to Blue Angel at least 8 times in the past 5 years and it keeps getting better every visit. (Not that it was ever lacking to begin with). Reading your vividly written dispatches is the next best thing to being there -- which will happen at the...

Are divers seeing more cobia since Hurricane Richard?

I'd estimate it to be the same size as the one in your initial post. Observing it above the Eagle ray in symbiotic feeding mode was the fun aspect of the sighting. Until we verified it in the Fish Guide, no one knew for sure.
