AFter several attempts at BP's and Wings...

My buddy and I have the same cofiguration and mindset, it is just not DIR.

Of course you shouldn't. The point is that some, not all, would consider You unsafe since you are not DIR.

AFter several attempts at BP's and Wings...

That whole "dive what you want, but I wouldn't have you for a buddy" thing. I know this is not all those who dive DIR, but it is prevalent on the board. What we are lead to believe by those who follow DIR is that there is a (singular) uniform gear configuration that is safe. I thought...

AFter several attempts at BP's and Wings...

Uncle Pug, I know most of the advocates of DIR are not making any $, nether does the guy in the robe you buy the flower from at the mall. But unless you didn’t: A. Buy the book. B. Pay for the class. C. Buy anything from Extreme-Exposure. Then JJ is getting $ for it. More power to him...

AFter several attempts at BP's and Wings...

The name itself is inflammatory. So if you are not Doing it Right you must be doing it how? Some antonyms for Right would be: Wrong Erroneous Incorrect Faulty In the back of my cynical mind when I read about DIR I can’t help thinking of that famous quote from Tom Cruise, "Show me the...

Beginner looking for some reg advice

My comments were 50% Smart A__ (MikeF I detected a note of sarcasm in your fist post :) ) and 50% over-sensitivity to the whole Air2 is a terrible idea thing. It is a simple, clean configuration. I don’t see anything wrong with people using them for recreational diving if that is what they...

Beginner looking for some reg advice

Ok Mike I’ll rise. :jester: It is not something "they will think up next" it has already been thought up. I learned on this board that some people want to add a (count 'em) fourth hose to their configuration. But wait… It will be 7..................feet................. long, wrapped...

    Scuba Pro MK25TA

The SP catalogue states that all of their regulator systems are Nitrox compatible up to 40% oxygen at 3300 psi. With the regular MK25 they offer a kit to upgrade it to 100% O2. :) Bill

    International Purchases

Here is a quote from SP’s UK site. http://www.scubapro.co.uk/warranty.html "To obtain warranty service you must either bring your SCUBAPRO regulator together with proof of purchase to any authorized SCUBAPRO dealer or send it to SCUBAPRO, or to any other SCUBAPRO factory in the United...

First equipment purchase for young divers

I went through the exact same scenario with my son, I agree that you should continue to talk to your LDS. It is nice to have that relationship if you encounter problems. They also may sell their rental gear at the end of the year if they get in new stuff. Mine won’t deal on BC’s or Regs, so…...

Has anyone bought a drysuit from EBay?

I have bought a BC and wetsuit on Ebay. Both were in excellent condition. Know the max you are willing to pay and stick to it. I have see (and got) some reaally great deals on Ebay. I have also see people pay more than MSRP! Follow MgicTwnger"s advice. My best deal was a Henderson Gold 7mm...

    Right-side up regulator = freeflow?!

Could someone explain again why it would free flow out of the water? If the seat is bad, that makes some sense, but I don't get how just facing the mouthpeice up would caause it to free flow. I understand the pressure difference underwater, but I don't understand how there would be a...

Beginner looking for some reg advice

Not to get off the thread, but I posted in another one about watching Shark Week. Nigel, the host, was using a HUB and he aways had his console dangling:)

Beginner looking for some reg advice

I like the Scubapros. The Air2 works fine as Sydney Diver said for recreational purposes. I have one, it works as advertized, it is no problem to use. You will be used to grabbing it to inflate your BC so it will be second nature to grab it. You can use a shoulder dump if your BC has one...

Who has the best tank prices?

Talk to your LDS after you have found what the prices are online. I did and they came WAY down on their price. They have not done this for BC's or Regs, but on the tanks they went from $389.00 each down to $250.00 each on a pair of SP 95's made by Faber. Good luck! Bill

    Smiling/Laughing

Last Friday my son and I were diving at the local lake. We were catching crawdads and feeding them to the all-but- tame bass. My son had a pretty big crawdad grab him back and the way he started whipping his hand around had me in tears. It took me quite a few times to get my mask cleared as I...

    Trim weights

I use 2lbs of trim weight in each back pocket of my Knighthawk. The Superhawk is an earliier version of the same basic BC. Here is a link to the Navy's site that has their opinion on weighting for the Superhawk. http://www.supsalv.org/anu_page.html#SCUBA%20EQUIPMENT Mine does push my face...

I know backplate is best, but.....

RickM, I have read your posts on BC's and you have one of the most balanced opinions on the subject that I have read. I just thought that Mike asked a legit question and a few posts just made fun of the BC he was looking at. You have to admit there is vocal group on the board that one gets...

I know backplate is best, but.....

I thought the same thing about the "Shark Week" host and celeberty divers. Did you see all the stuff hanging off of Nigel's HUB? I meant the divers who are doing the wreck exploration/recovery.
