OMS Dual Bladder wings. 60lb, 94lb Difference?

So again with the Certified Cyber-Diver approach, since I only dive a single 30 lb. wing and generally find it has too much lift... If my instructor suggested a 94 lb. wing, I would assume it was a teaching technique designed to see if I was paying attention to the part of his class concerning...

    Cressi Sub Full Face Mask

The Certified Cyber-Diver answer is to Google your question. One handy trick is to include "site:scubaboard.com" in your query to restrict results to Scubaboard. That often gives better results than Scubaboard's own search! Here's what I found: Full Face Mask Advice?

OMS Dual Bladder wings. 60lb, 94lb Difference?

I will give you the "Certified Cyber-Diver" answer: Ask your instructor. The answer will almost certainly not be 90+ pounds of lift, but that's irrelevant. The important thing is that your instructor may have strong opinions about your rig that will dovetail with the system he teaches. Some...

    Employment related question - Dreadlocks

There's something to this. If you grow dreads and get a job in a place that makes you happy, you win. If you can't find a job, it's easy to cut them off. I can't speak for the most Neanderthal of employers out there, but I doubt that having had dreads once in your life for a few months will hold...

    Nitrox mix question.

Were you trained to combine two different mechanisms for conservatism or just one? If you were trained for one, you do this: You know that PO2 1.6 at your planned depth of 110' is fine, but to build in some conservatism/contingency, you plan for a PO2 of 1.4. If you happen to go deeper for...

    Employment related question - Dreadlocks

Giving the OP unsolicited career advice, while I am obviously very ok with Divemasters that have dreadlocks and with various forms of employment law that are not popular in this thread, I would also be extremely careful about this kind of conversation in the workplace. Typically, both liberal...

    Employment related question - Dreadlocks

Well in the days before electricity when I was young, the innuendo-laden question directed at women with a vivid shade of hair colour was, "Does the carpet match the drapes?" I suspect the question some people are wondering about is whether you've gone with hardwood floors. I'm not asking...

    Employment related question - Dreadlocks

If you don't wash your hair regularly, you probably can't grow dreadlocks because your skin oils will interfere with the binding process. Traditionally, people with dreadlocks wash them every other day in the sea, there is some belief that washing them in salt water helps them bind. Washing...

Thanks, that was really informative. I especially liked the Trimix SpareAir. But for those whose browsers have trouble with hyperlinks, can you copy the messages and paste them here? It's nice to have the same old arguments all over again instead of having to use the search feature on the board.

    Spare Air: some thoughts

Do you see the irony? I wrote something very specific, and you generalized it. Given the existence of behaviour such as this, where persons can take something written in a specific way and extend it in ways the author did not intend, you have a medium that is ripe for misunderstandings. Such...

    Spare Air: some thoughts

If you learn to dive by reading something on the Internet, that is bad. If you take it out of context, e.g. by googling for a term and failing to read the entire thread, that is worse.

They rented me a pony bottle for $10. It wasn't a hardship.

    Spare Air: some thoughts

FWIW, when I took my AOW the LDS took us on a charter that required pony bottles for divers that were not AOW on all dives below 60'. So far they seem to be the exception and not the rule.

    Spare Air: some thoughts

Great read. I can cherry-pick support for and against SpareAir from the article. For example, it brings up panic as a major factor in 39% of the deaths. Perhaps having a SpareAir would make divers calmer. It also brings up poor buddy practices: 86% of the divers who perished did not have their...

    Spare Air: some thoughts

I don't understand your response at all. I said nothing about automobiles and glass. Nor did I say anything about YOU. You were talking about new divers and asking if someone would suggest they carry a pony bottle. I suggest they dive within their training. Do you disagree? If a new diver...
