    buying, renting, borrowing tanks

From the group of 20+ divers that I dive with regularly, the trend with new divers usually follows - Rent , you don't know that many divers when you start out - Borrow, as a diver get involved with clubs and make more dive friends - Buy, as you start diving more it just makes it more...

    Salvo light failure

The main difference with the remote head HID is that the ballast is located inside the canister which provides more protection. If you are looking at the 9Amp lights you get more burn time with the remote head HID 300min vs. 240mins. We usually have our Skype fired up if anyone overseas wants...

    Don't like pencil/slate; other options?

Glue a pocket onto your wetsuit and keep your wetnotes and pecil in it, along with other items. Much easier to write on and you save the notes if you document something important. I only carry a slate w/compass mount if I'm doing a mapping project.

    Double Aluminum 80's

When you go to Florida (Ginnie) you'll have no choice but to rent steel doubles. :) I dive AL 80's wet here in California. I take my AL BP when I go to Florida cave country, otherwise, I'm way too overweighted in my 7mm. You usually only find double 95's or larger to rent. Rich at Cave...

    Becoming a DAN member?

Sign up, it's a no brainer. It's called accident insurance, not "What we planned" insurance. Go head and sign up for both of you (family plan). Once again, proof that women are smater then men. :)

Calculating the cost to maintain HID light

That's what you should really focus on. Maintenance costs on a HID are somewhat trival. In the 2+ years life of my Sartek 10W I've only had to spend $70. This was due to my own "improvement" job...the light head flooded. Sent it back to Carl and he replaced the lens, reflector, updated the...

    Spear Guns in Mexico?

You should get a Mexico fishing licence, you can find information here http://bajaquest.com/bajasports/rules.htm I have never had any issues with spearguns. I usually pack them in my surfboard bag with the board, strapped to the roof. Road checks with openly visable pole spears have never...

    Oxygen Sources?

A standard O2 kit should suit most boaters needs. If you have an emergency you should use your radio and put out a distress call. The Coast Guard or a nearby motor boat would serve your victim better than trying to motor a sailboat to help.

    Salvo Backup Lights

The switch going to the middle should not be a big concern, in fact I consider it an extra precaution against accidently turning your light on. It's not uncommon for any backup lights to accidently switch on. If you are wearing it with a harness and have tube loops holding the light down it's...

Best pocket for a DSS BP/W

X-shorts will work or you might consider glueing a pocket to the wetsuit. That's my perfered choice. We carry the G-Pocket and it has held up well.
