O2 analyser is a must or not????

If you dive rental tanks for EAN on a regular basis, it is convenient to own your own analyzer. Once you own tanks that are being used for EAN, I feel you MUST purchase an analyzer. The cost of the analyzer vs the risk of grabbing a mislabled tank is too great.

How to start out in tech diving?

By the time someone has reached tech/advanced training instructor level they have invested a considerable amount of time and money into their training. I doubt you find many advanced training instructors who "mint card" to students. Maybe in OW classes this can be debated, but I like to think...

    Which Brand Makes "Top-Notch" Regulators?

I don't have the time to read all the responses, but I thought I would at least chime in to agree with RapidDiver. I have ALung Titan LX, DiveRite, and Salvo regs (which I sell, so it's out in the open). I had a used set of Scubapro piston regs for a while on my doubles. One 1st stage kept...

Larger Tanks - Playa Del Carmen

If you are looking for larger tanks to compensate for air consumption, don't forget most of your ocean diving will be drift diving. Most likely (if you relax) you'll have better air consumption since you don't need to excert yourself kicking. The current will take you for a nice ride and all...

what reel for SMB should I get

You should go with the spool vs. the reel. It's pretty easy to get a nice tangle going by trying to shoot a bag or SMB using a reel. If the reel tangles and jams you have two options, 1) get pulled to the surface with the SMB, 2) let go and watch the reel and SMB go to the surface. With 2...

How busy is July on SoCal dive boats? Advice needed!

Boats fill up pretty much year round. We dove the Island Time on the weekend with about 20 divers. Eco Dive Center has some great dives coming up. You can grab some boat deals over at the DiveVets club as well. They add new boats all the time so keep checking as you trip comes closer.

    TDI Decompression Procedures

Slightly on topic, if anyone is looking for an instructor in the Los Angeles area, my friend Bruce W is teaching Naui Tech. He just brought his website online, but it is still being modified/updated: SoCalTecDivers.com The Naui course is structured very similar, 150' dives, shoot bags, gas...

    Video Editing Software

You're having problems with the very popular Pinnicle, you've been down the Mac "road". Maybe the problem isn't software or hardware related?? I don't know your background when it comes to software/hardware or editing, but maybe you should bring someone in to help get you set up. BTW - FCP...

protecting valuables (cash & passport) while diving

This is not a solution for locking up your passport, but if you need to secure items while you dive, like keys, pocket money, credit cards, cell phone, take a look at the KeyPod. We started carrying these a couple months ago and the response has been positive. I use one because the box is more...

    Henderson Hyperstretch warmth

I have a Hyperstretch 7mm w/hooded vest. I also have HS boots. I will probably wear this suit out before I buy another, but I will not consider another HS product in the future. My dives are usually in the 70-100' range and this suit does not insulate as well as my Body Glove suit. I hate...

    a retreat from DIR

I always have my light on my right hand, with the cord coming over my shoulder and wrapped around the forearm. Never had any problems or compaints with air share drills, in training or practice. My dive buddies who scooter usually switch back and forth between left and right hands depending on...
