    Follow the leader.

UP Seen them and have been one, but not to my liking. I have a buddy whom I did most of my training with. He and I did our OW and AOW last year together and then this year when I signed up for my wreck class I called him to see if he wanted to take it too. He did and we joined up again...

    Scuba etiquette 102 - Lobster

Everyone took home their own lobsters, including the crew. That's interesting, because the mate that set the hook on this dive actually did the longest dive of anyone on the boat. He did a 70 minute BT dive with 37 minutes on the line. He went in before everyone else and came out after we...

    Scuba etiquette 102 - Lobster

A question came up at the dive club meeting that I thought I might throw out here. On a recent club dive the boat crew caught a huge number of lobsters when they did their dives while we were doing our SIT. Now a number of the dive club members did catch lobsters on their first dive, and our...

    Recent Fatalities - Accident Analysis

True Tom The internet has opened tremendous opportunities for sharing information and ideas and allowing debate with multiple viewpoints previously unavailable. However, with all good things, it also has its drawbacks. As easy as it is to post helpful, insightful and valuable information, it...

    Recent Fatalities - Accident Analysis

Tom I agree that accidents and deaths should be discussed, studied and debated in order to understand the causes and provide the information so that others can incorporate the findings into their own personal diving education. However, given internet discussion groups in general, and my...

    Calculating average depth

Thanks everyone for the math lessons and for Uncle Pug for putting everything in perspective. Since Oceanic's Oceanlog data file is sored in a MDB file, I decided to take a look at it with Microsoft Access. I figured I could link to the info, import it into excel and do my calculation. Lo and...

Does your Local Dive shop have Nitrox?

I had origionaly voted no, but my LDS, Aquatech just got Nitrox about a month ago. With that, I finish my EANx certification class with them Thursday night and will be doing my first Nitrox dive this weekend. Ty

    Northeast boat diving

My LDS does almost all of it's student dives off a boat named the Bottom Time out of Barnaget Light. The owners are great and very helpfull for new NE divers. If you go through the shop one of the instructors will be on board and can be there to help you get used to the pecularities of Jersey...

Do you guys ever get seasick?

You might want to take one or two before you go to bed. That way it is already in your system and you can take on in the morning to get you through the dive. Ty

Do you guys ever get seasick?

If you want one you can have mine. However, it's somewhere between Barnaget Light and the Great Isaac wreck. It did nothing for me and I chucked it overboard as I was hanging over the rail  Ty

    Doria Death?

I dove with them last weekend and I have to say that they were great. The crew was very helpfull and stressed safety at every turn. I'm not a GUE diver so the C-card thing wasn't a big deal, but I would dive with them again in a heartbeat. Ty

    Wreck Hunting

Mike Thanks for the great info. It looks like I have a project for this winter... Tom posted a great article about you and your group. Very impressive. So far as a fairly new diver most of my research has been reading anything and everything I can on wrecks, marine history, technical...

    Doria Death?

Eric Why the constant slams against the Seeker? If I remember right, you said you have never been out on them. I know you have quoted their "history" but this is appearing to be almost a personal vendetta. Has Dan done something to you personally? Ty

LeisurePro.com safe place to orde equipment?

LeidurePro is owned by Orthodox Jews, hence their closure from Friday afternoon through Sunday morning. They are also closed on most of the major Jewish holiday's. Keep that in mind if you are planning a trip and need to place an order around a holiday. They are great at working with you and...

    Calculating average depth

OK, this is a pretty simple question, but I am having a brain cramp today  I have an Oceanic Datmax Pro Plus. Oceanic’s download program Oceanlog is pretty anemic, to say the least. One of the things it does not do is calculate SAC for a dive. It does give me a readout of my depth...

    WDW Epcot Living Seas DiveQuest

The kids and I are scheduled for WDW the first week of November and I'm going to try to do the DiveQuest them. I'm a big disney fan and have been in several of the shows where they pick people out of the crowd to join them on stage. This should be another chance for me to embarrass the kids. Ty

    Transpac II Problem

If I remember right, the weight pouches are supposed to be tread so that they are over the plate that connects the shoulder straps to the waist strap. That way they should not move. If you don't have the TP II manual, you can downlaod a copy at http://www.diverite.com/acrobat/libary/tr_om.pdf ...

The Great local dive shop vs. online debate

The LDS that I go to also explained another trend he faces beyond the on-line issue. When he started the shop back in 1991, most of the divers that they trained stayed around and dove locally. You always get people who get their C- Card and never dive again, but he estimated that back then maybe...
