    Tech diving circa 1425

I was surfing around the web during a particularly boring conference call when I came across this site. http://www.middelaldercentret.dk/projectindex.htm I'm not sure I would want to be the test diver for a medieval diving suit. Ty

    Light rigging question

I am trying to figure out a good way to rig my UK D8 light. I have one of those coil lanyards but the light always seems to hang down and be in my way. At the quarry a few weeks ago there was a guy who had a double rope setup with rings and bolt clips that he used to clip off his light over his...

    Dive Knife position

I have almost the same setup as Madmole except my EMT shears are rigged between my shoulder strap and my waist band. It keeps them nice and tight and in easy reach. When I was wearing a BC, I sewed the sheath of the EMT shears to the pocket of my BC and that worked great. I've been playing with...

    hand signals?

Ok, this is a bit corney, but my GF and I have a hand signal that doesn't translate well underwater. Basicly you raise one finger, then 4 fingers, then three fingers... 1-4-3 which means "I love you" the response is to point to yourself, then two fingers, then point to the other person. me too...

    Pictures in Profiles?

That's why my picture has my kids in it. I figure that way it would divert the attention from me. :) Ty

Can you comfortably bring your knee up to your chest in your drysuit?

I'm with Wetman on this one... I have a Viking that is very flexible to do the stuff I do underwater. I can move my arms back to reach the tank valves and bend my knees to practice my frog kicks. But I haven't ever had the need to bring my feet, or even my knees to my chest... and like wetman...

    Not quite DIR but . . .

Since I missed this threads tangent on diving solo, let me add to my post ablve that I do dive with a buddy.. and he also has a pony bottle. If something happens, he or I can go to our own pony as a backup.. and we both then go up. If need be, we can share our pony... and we do practice that...

    DUI Weight and Trim System

A DM that helps out at my LDS has one and loves it. I kept looking at it and tried to justify the cost, but couldn't do it. I went with simple weight belt, although I am starting to suffer from old man disease... My butt fell off and my chest has sunk to my waist... Ty

    Not quite DIR but . . .

Let's try this again... tbg, to answer your origional question without all of the DIR debate, rigging the pony as you described does not effect the operation of your wing. I dive with a 19cf pony attached to my single steel 120 with a Pony tamer. I use a TP II with a Rec wing.I don't notice...

    A cure for sea-sickness?

I am trying the patch for the first time this Sunday. I get seasick in the bathtub, so I hope this does the trick. I've tried a number of other things and nothing has helped. So far I have accepted feeling like death warmed over in order to dive, but one of the instructors at my LDS swears by...

Is your spouse/so your dive buddy?

My s.o. is my dive buddy for all of her dives, but not for all of mine. She was certified last year and did her AOW last month. As part of that she has to do two dives in the ocean off of Jersey, but these will probably be her only Jersey dives as she hates the cold water. She and I plan to...

    What's happening on EBay?

Is there a full moon this week or are all of the crazies just on EBay. Yesterday I watched two bidders drive the price of a pair of used Jet Fins to almost $60 when you could get a new pair for only $65... And tonight I was surfing in the general scuba catagory when I ran across a 2.7 cf spair...

$2.75 a pound for LEAD? You're kidding right?

When I bought my TP II I also got the weight pockets. I then went to a local sporting goods store and bought two 20# bags of lead buckshot for about $7.50 each.. so that's about $0.37 a pound. I had also bought some pouchs on ebay from Scuba-Accessories.com and filled them. So all in I have 40#...

    Wreck Dives

I did the Wreck Survey and Wreck Penitration course through NAUI. It explained a lot about different types of wrecks, what to look for and how to dive them safely. Check out this thread for a discussion about the class. Also, from what I understand, NAUI lets the course director come up with the...

    Sunscreen for the tropics

As someone who has only two skin tones... white and red... I've tried a number of sunscreen. The best I've seen is called Scuba made by Key West Aloe. It goes on like Elmers glue but it does prevent me from burning... They have a Website and a phone number 800-445-2583. Ty

We were chased out of the water by sharks!

He was just being friendly. Maybe you guys looked cute to him? You know, sometimes it is just so hard to find the right mate... and when you do, they scamper back onto their boat. What's a loney shark supposed to do? Sorry, I just had to do it :out: Ty

    Underwater Walkman

I have a link around here somewhere for an underwater walkman, but I can't seem to find it right now. However, I don't think it would be too tough to build. You would need an underwater canister like what they use for lights and a waterproof fitting for the headphone cord. I would guess that the...
