    My wife, OW, and DIR?

This was the best I could hope for. She is fortunate to have had a decent instructor for her OW dives. Otherwise, I would've had to try and erase everything myself. Mike

    My wife, OW, and DIR?

Mike, I never said I had a problem introducing a snorkel to an OW student, but requiring them to have one for OW is dumb. If people would spend as much time thinking about clean gear configurations, buddy skills, and buoyancy control as the do about whether they should wear a snorkel, they...

    My wife, OW, and DIR?

Sounds like a setup to me, but I'll bite :D. Yeah, I follow the DIR philosophy for the most part. Are jacket style BC's dangerous? No. They won't kill you. Are all agencies other than GUE wrong? I, personally, don't have a lot of good things to say about most other agencies. Most seem...

    My wife, OW, and DIR?

I can't wait until GUE gets in the game so we don't have address this kind of junk. My wife is done, so I don't care. Ya'll teach anyway you want. If you're able to look yourself in the mirror after a class then so much the better, I guess. Good luck. Mike

    My wife, OW, and DIR?

Mike, If PADI is low enough to expell an instructor for not requiring a snorkel, then... If an instructor is low enough to turn another instructor in for it... It would take a real scumbag of an organization to do something like that, and it would take an even bigger scumbag to turn...

    My wife, OW, and DIR?

Hey Neil, As I write this, I'm trying to pick my words carefully so I don't come acrossed as insulting every PADI instructor on the planet. That's not my intention when I go after the various organizations. There are a lot of little bad habits that the recreational agencies instill in...

    My wife, OW, and DIR?

Yeah, that's probably the case. Fortunately, there are a few instructors out there that will go above and beyond to produce quality students. If that means breaking a few foolish rules, then so be it. Personally, I would rather be taught (and have my wife taught) by someone who has a clue...

    My wife, OW, and DIR?

We were at that last platform. I think she was to the right of the platform (50 yards maybe) into the underwater trees. She probably knows better than I do though. I'll ask her. Mike

    My wife, OW, and DIR?

A lot of people said that when she was telling her story. It was a fairly small one, but the nose was obvious. What's more odd, is that it went after her hand. In fact, it scratched her finger up a little bit. I guess they eat algea or something? Mike

    My wife, OW, and DIR?

Other than having to take off her mask, she had a wonderful time. In fact, she was so psyched afterwards, she started making plans to go back next summer with her dad, brother (who are both certified), my dad, and even me . She had one of those prehistoric paddle fish come up and...

    My wife, OW, and DIR?

I meant to call you, Jack, but I forgot. I really wasn't planning on diving at all, but Mike wouldn't take no for an answer :D.... kidding. We had a great dive. We do have room on the next few trips to the UP, if you're interested. Mike

    My wife, OW, and DIR?

I thought I’d share my last trip with all of you. It was long in coming, but my wife, Christi, finally got certified. Some background. She did all her classroom and pool work last spring prior to our moving down state. It was the typical PADI curriculum using the run-of-the-mill jacket BC...

    New name for "DIR"

Hey Mike, That was Brandon Schwarts that told me $300 for the DIRF class in Detroit this fall. I relayed that price to you this past weekend when we were diving at Gilboa. Don't let the money come between you and class. I guarentee you'll benefit from it. I'd take it again if I could buy...

    New name for "DIR"

It's a marketing slogan, of course it's important to them. I couldn't care less what's it called, but I'll continue to use the name as a means of identification and communication. Mike

    New name for "DIR"

If one can get the entire industry to call it DIK, then have it ;). How about someone ask George and JJ if they would be so kind as to change it, so nobody's feelings get hurt any longer ;-0. Please post their reponse so we can all get a good laugh in :D. Yoose guyz crack me up! Mike

    New name for "DIR"

When I first starting getting interested in my currently configuration, it was still called hogarthian. I think it was about 1996 or so that DIR started. I don't care what it's called as long as it works as advertised. Which it does. I don't think most people have a problem with the name...

    Ankle Weights!!!

Most divers wouldn't know perfect trim if they saw it, much less "master" it. There's a huge difference between *PADI trim* and proper trim. Mike

Need opinions on BP weight choice

You don't want all that weight on a belt. I would do as Omar suggested... heavy plate and heavy STA. Mike
